Hello,
just wanting to hear some opinions on what affect the weather would have on re accruing fungal. I live in south gippsland Australia. My guinea pigs are on fleece with a section of shavings and hay.
It rains here ALOT. The piggies are bought into the lounge room at night where we have a fireplace usually going. I always catch the fungal before it becomes an issue and I always clean everything with f10. Was thinking maybe the moisture mixed with the warm fireplace was the cause?
Trying to narrow everything down to even the place I get my hay from to try and better prevent it.

It's just frustrating because I do everything I can possibly think of to keep it away and it just WONT STAY AWAY. Just trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. 2 of my pigs almost died from fungal as rescues so maybe it's just something they are sensitive to.

:D I couldn't really say for sure what might be causing your fungal problems. But I would have thought that the fireplace would dry out the atmosphere. Fungal spores usually originate from a damp climate, don't they? :hmm:

They do yes and the fireplace would dry it out but if it's wet and warm would they not grow? Hmmmmm

Is it humid where you are as that can cause fungal?

High humidity and warmth are generally the ideal breeding ground for fungal complaints, and it sounds like you have the climate for it. :( Would it be possible to give your piggies a regular antifungal foot bath with a mild specific shampoo like malaseb?

Malaseb is what I use to bath them when they get it and they have also been dipped in imaverol. I just wanted to make sure my suspicions of the warm and wet mixture being the cause. Thanks so much for your help :)
