I nearly had a heart attack yesterday:.... I was holding Pepper (my cream longhaired Texel) and thinking about giving her a bath and I felt a squidgy bit of skin (not felt it before and she has been brushed and bathed before) I touched it and oh my god it was like toothpaste that came out of it, it was thick and a little bit waxy, but what a lot came out. I immediately got some Dettol and bathed it, then I gave her a good bath with G. guinea shampoo and then dettol again. A friend told me it was a soft cyst, I hope she is right. Has anyone else had this on their guineas?

Sebaceous cysts are pretty common (I would assume that's what your friend meant), they can vary in size and the contents are rather like the texture of toothpaste. They don't do any harm that I am aware of, just something to monitor. :)

"Has anyone else had this on their guineas?"

Sebaceous cysts are extremely common, regret your pig will not make it into the reference books with a new medical condition!!

I assume that if it is sebaceous cyst it will keep coming back? It is thick enough to use as wallpaper paste:)p. Many thanks:)p

I always use the dirty toothpaste description!
It all depends, if there is some cyst lining remains the cyst can return, in practice, not that many do.

one of my guinea pigs has 2 cysts, they are not soft, they just form scabs on the skin which i have to pick off. the first time i noticed them i took my guinea to the vets where the vet just said to pull the scab off and squeeze if necessary. suprisingly the vet didn't charge me! :O

sometimes it bleeds when the scab is pulled off, but there has never been any discharge.
