Midge has been on septrin 0.4ml twice a day for quite some time now as well as metacam and nutracys+ for bladder issues. Today she has developed very soft poo (toothpaste consistency). She's had grass for the past 2 days and I think this is part of the problem. I've cut out the greenstuff and she has plenty of forage to nibble on as well as having critical care. She's also having pro-c unfortunately I have no fibreplex. She's never had a problem/ side effects with the septrin but I'm wondering whether it would be worth stopping it while she has the soft poos but continuing with the other medication. Many thanks

I would cut out the veg first and feed lots and lots of hay first, if after a day it hasn't had the desired effect then take her off the septrin for a day.. While you get her back on the straight and narrow. How long has she been on the septrin? It's normally well tolerated and is probably the grass or a bit of slightly off veg causing the issue. I reckon a night and morning off veg with lots of hay should pull it round to normality again.
If the poo turns into water please visit the vet ASAP as you know, but soft poo should clear up soon hopefully, love to Midge x

Thanks for the reply. Midge has been on the septrin for about 6mths which makes me think it is the grass causing the problem. Definitely hasn't got worse so hopefully a few days without veggies will do the trick. Not sure she's going to think about that. :D

Midge has nicely formed all be it small poos no sign of a 'squishy' bottom which is good news. While I'm posting I'm going to ask for some more advice. Midge has been slowly loosing weight now for about 2mths. She's had to deal with an ongoing eye infection which turns out that she had a hay seed travel around the back of the eye socket causing pain and in turn not wanting to eat. This was sorted and I thought that was the end of the problem but no still in my opinion not eating enough so she was taken in for a dental on Friday where it was found she had some sharp back molars. These have been dealt with. She is still not eating as well as I would like - almost as if she gets bored with eating. She's being topped up with cc but only about 7ml twice a day (she becomes highly distressed if we try to feed her against her will). She has plenty of different forages to choose from. Timothy being her favourite. She can eat the 'fluffy' bits with no problem. As stated before she is on medication for her bladder issues and we have started the eye drops again in case there is still pain in the eye socket. She is also having daktarin oral incase there is still pain in the mouth. She's lost about 130g over the 2 mths. I know she's going through an awful lot at the moment, she's 5 1/2 yrs and still quite active and she still likes to show she is top pig by humping her 2 cage mates at least twice. a day. Her body condition is still quite good but I can feel her hip bones. The hardest part is trying to maintain her weight. I'm not ready to give up on her yet any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks x

Glad to hear poo is looking better, Is she still on metacam?

Your covering the pain, if the eating continue to be slow and unhappy, I would recommend a jaw Xray just make sure roots are all good. Love to Midge x x
