Hi all, just looking for a bit of advice. My sow has been a little bit lethargic this morning and I’ve noticed her poops are looking very odd and she seems really uncomfortable. The poops are soft and very sticky. She is an easily stressed piggie so only want to take her to the vets if absolutely necessary as she doesn’t do very well. I’ve given her a bit of critical care and some Pro-C. Any advice welcome!

Next to a normal poo for reference

I’m sorry to hear this.

Please do give the pro-c.
Please also remove all veg and any fresh grass from her diet. If this is a mild upset then a few days without veg should settle it. If her poops normalize after a few days without veg then you can slowly start to reintroduce it very carefully.
If poops dont normalise after a few days off veg, then she will need to go to the vet.

Make sure you switch to daily weight checks so you can more closely monitor her hay intake, and step in/increase syringe feeding if needed

I hope she is ok

Thank you! That’s reassuring. My partner did say he gave them a bit more fruit than normal yesterday without realising. Any advice on the dosage of Pro-C? I’m not sure how much to give her

That would probably be the cause. Fruit should only be a very occasional treat so a bit more the gut is used to can cause an upset.

I believe a small pinch is fine (I don’t actually use pro-c).
