Hi
My guinea pig has a patch of soiled fur above his bottom. We have cleaned it with shampoo, salt water and the hutch is cleaned daily but it doesn’t go away. Any ideas?? x

Is he a male? If so this is most probably is grease gland. This is where male piggies produce their scent. To get rid of some of the grease I rub a little bit of coconut oil onto it. Hope this helps!

Does your piggie have a friend? Guinea pigs are very social situations and do much better off with a friend. Another male guinea pig could help your current guinea pig to settle in quicker, feel more safe, have more fun and have someone to interact with. As much as we try, our contact with guinea pigs is just not the same as another guinea pig.

Hi-
Due to circumstances out of our control he can’t be bonded. We have tried to but he just doesn’t like it-we don’t want to neuter him coz we lost a guinea pig due to anaesthetic

Is he wet with it as well or just getting a bit mucky? It could be a UTI or something stopping him from moving out of his wee that's causing it as well. Might be worthwhile get a vet to give him a health check

Yes that helps, I also think it’s the grease gland.
