Fingers crossed for the pregnant sow with the sore eye. They all sound like they have been through hell. In safe hands now though. x

thanks Louise, Graham has drops for the sow to see if the infection can be beaten that way - surgery could then take place after she delivers the babies. If not, obviously huge risk to the little ones .

Susie has one boar up with her that has no ear - it was caked in blood and has a severe infection going on too - I am sure Susie will post in due course on this thread to let us know the situation with the boys who went up to her.

Meeting Jane today at Becky's house to pass over 5/6 boys for fostering in Warrington.

Helen.

My god, what an awful few days you have had. Poor piggies. A massive well done to you all for your time and dedication. Hoping that all the piggies will be ok xxxxxxxxxxxx

Have a safe trip Jane, helen you know where I am if you need me to take any when the babes are bigger! I got Maggie's prize from Wagg yesterday so food is not an issue haha! x

Aw my! you two are such troopers! keep up the good work, its so sad to hear about so many animals who have suffered through mistreatment. poor littluns.

xxxxxxxxxx

Oh, dear! You are all doing such an amazing job!

My best to the little sow with the bad eye! and the ones that are critically thin and don't even know what food looks like!

Thanks Emily - just had yet another phone call wanting us to take some more in - it never ends and my breakdown is just beginning.

ARGH>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hels - no, no, no! Don't breakdown. You're doing an absolutely marvellous job! I know its hard but please, please, please stay strong and don't put yourself into a bad space.

... why isn't there a damned love-heart emoticon?!?

Is there anything people on the board can do to help, besides offering cyber-hugs?

Also: Susie has boars, does she? *starts to work on another cage expansion!*

If Susie has kept any boars they are all adult and chunky, some nice cream and white Aby's and other s :)

We have a spare cage at the mo, which could house 3 small piggies, and we are working on expasion of our housing program. If you get stuck you know where we are! :)p

Oh and if you leave Helen and myself are coming too :)):))

Just caught up with this thread - I have been a busy bee since finishing my exams at uni and haven't had enough time! Joanne at Hop 2 Hutches who took the 7 boars was an absolute star - she had just rehomed the last of the gyspy girls we handed over to her, and now these boys! She's treating them all with invermec, and they all don't know what to do with veggies!

I've got a pair of boars from the first rescue - both terrified but otherwise rather healthy pigs (Apart from a big of a mite infestation that is being treated!). They're gorgeous boys and I doubt they'll be around for long.

I also have darling Billy, from the big allotment seizure. His ear is a horrible mess - it's so infected and ruined that his ear canal has actually swollen shut, and I am cleaning pus from it daily. I did have him in isolation but he was so miserable and lonely that I popped him in the room with others, and since then he has perked up and started eating as much nuggets and hay as I throw at him! He seems know what grass is for, but like the others vegtables are a mystery! For an almost wild pig he is ever so patient with medcine and the bathing of his ear, so once that is cleaned up he'll be looking for a home. :)

I want to say well done to Becky (and mark), Helen and Graham for coping with this so well - it is a monumental rescue but I have never known Helen to declare she has no room!

How are the emaciated and special needs piggies doing? I sincerely hope that you can pull them all through! You're doing such a sterling job!

Enjoyed your pics - though it gave me a bit of a start seeing a doppelganger of my "special" piggie Minx...

I think the hardest thing so far is getting them to eat veg, alot just dont know what it is!
My lot certainly are getting there with trying new foods but its just been a little an often job as dont want to upset any tummies.

Who can be bathed/ivermectin'd has been.
I'd say a good 80% have hardly been handled. I have 2 from Fridays lot who run the wall of death if you walked into the room yesterday but today I'm making an effort walking in the room as much as poss making noises too, but they dont mind the hoover :{

"Wild" piggies react to us as predators, and it takes a while for them to connect nice food with us... poor pigs! Not easy to get them to try new stuff - even if it would save them!

With perisitence and patience, you'll get there. But it takes a lot... and, of course, with so many you have less time to spare for each.

Yeah its hard having a lot, Its a case of who ever is rehomable is up for adoption, hopefully their new owners can give them alot of hugs and love :)

Good luck!

In one way, I'm glad that I don't live near you - I'd be my husband's murder victim right now! Still very torn about that that dutch lady, though...

Yes. please!

Have a look at my new avatar - then you can understand what I mean. It is my Minx with her own two surprise babies...

Can't wait to see what the little girl produces; some of the ladies look like they're ready to pop any minute now! I really hope that all goes well and there are no dead babies...

Just read this thread what a lot of piggies! well done for rescuing them all and hope they all start getting better soon with their hairless tummies! Hope all the pregnant sows do well with their litters! x

Had a look at all your pics and the rehomeable piggies. Haven't dared to mention the dutch lady yet...

I have just come across this thread after trying to find some more general info on piggies. It was lovely reading how you have managed to cope and i do know the RSPCA are extremely grateful for all the help on Wednesday. We could not have done it without you Helen. xx>>>
