hello, I'm new to the forum and i need some urgent advice.
my sow of 3 yrs old is loosing hair around all her legs and tummy and hair is thinning on her back- i am currently treating her for fungal. however, the other 2 sows she lives with seem to be fine and there's no itching, scabbing etc. the thing that concerns me alot is her quick loss of weight. she eats and eats but her skin is starting to sag where she is loosing weight round her face front and back legs. I'm ordering in some more ivomec to treat her, but does this help with worms? or do i need to buy some panacur sheep wormer? and can i use this along side ivomec?

i have also treated a cyst on her back end- that was yuck but assume its a coincidence?

any adice or answers would be great
Thanks
emma

Has she seen a vet at all?

I would advise seeing a vet ASAP, preferably one who is used to guineas and small animals.

I reckon a vet would be best. I am not sure about worming treatments off the net always just go to vets when I am worried.

Sorry I can't be much help, hope she is okay

Yes I would definitely say that she needs to see a vet. Not wanting to alarm you but by the time piggies loose weight things can go down hill pretty fast. If you tell us where you are someone might be able to recommend a vet in your area?

It would also be helpful to you and the vet (and us) if you could weigh your pigie daily and monitor just how much weight she is losing....

It sounds to be like there might be something going on with her reproductive system - possibly ovarian cysts or perhaps something else. You need to see a good cavy-savvy vet
