I have never bathed any of my piggies. (Molly is 2, three of them are about 6 months, Rosie is nearly 8 weeks).

I was unaware that you should bath them. They are all short haired, I was under the (perhaps mistaken) impression that only the long haired ones needed bathing. Anyway . . .

None of them smell and all look clean and beautiful, but I wouldn't mind trying them with a bath if it wouldn't be too stressful for them.

Any tips? All together? Separate? Where - our bath? Let them paddle first? What shampoo etc etc

Any help would be really appreciated - or if you think they particularly should or shouldn't be bathed. Thanks xx

My personal opinion is your guineas wouldn't need bathing that often (twice max every year). If you want to start bathing them I would bath them in pairs (not Rosie as she is to young), take it slowly and reasure them the whole time. I would just start by letting them have their feet in the water, not shampooing them the first time, let them get use to it and once you have done it a couple of times start the shampooing/bathing process. In the bath would be fine. Just be aware the first time you bath them they might try and jump about. I am not certain you should bath Molly because of her age, it would stress her out quite a bit. ;)

sometimes we have no choice but to bath them, they realllly funk especially the boars ( typical males )

its everyones choice what to do with them, personally i bath mine in GG shampoo's ( a couple of them certainly need it right now) and if the right shampoo is used it doesnt harm them ( it may make the males smell like a poof for a few days but hey ;D ;D)

I go on diddly-di's piggie page and she tells you how to bath if they need a bath what to use and where to do it she also has a great page on nail trimming too!

I knew you were going to ask me that and I have no idea how to link it so i will type it www.diddly-di.fsnet.co.uk I use this site loads as it is really informative she has lots of piggies and has owned piggies for a long time. I have found this to be the best site for me so far. hope this helps!

Please don't be under the impression that you HAVE to bathe them. If they are clean, not smelly or have no problems with the skin, then I don't see why you should. :)

Diddly di says this, she talks about the oils etc and the fact they wash themselves also that short hair gps may not need bathing as much

I wash my guinea pig approx 4 times a year (more if needed), he is a male and they tend to have a different odour to females. He also has a lot of white fur which tends to go a little dull when he is due a bath.

Agree, don't feel you have to bath them but if you decide to my personal opinion is Rosie is to young and it probably wouldn't be a good idea to start bathing Molly either because of her age. :)

Thanks so much for all your replies!

I think unless they start to stink or become filthy I will give the bathing a miss then! Don't want to stress anyone out and I also like to treat them all the same :smitten: :smitten: Thanks again xx
