Hey all,

Just after a little heads up on what is good and what is bad for our skinnies

Their seems to be so many manufacturers of pig food and all seem to be alike.
So the question is which is the food we should be buying?

Thanks
Nick

My skinny along with my other piggies have a Burges Excel mint, they love it and they squeak for it every day! If you have a baby (under 6 months) I quite like the Science Selective pellets as they use alfalfa which is good for growing piggies as has more calcium, but shouldn't be fed once fully grown :)

Lots of hay. Our rescue skinny always jumps straight into the pile of hay I add every afternoon. Fresh grass when available or readigrass when not. She also loves most veggies inc. kale, cucumber, carrot, celery, romaine, melon, apple & peppers (any colour). Only very small amounts of carrot & apple though. Kale like cabbage, brocolli & spinach is high in calcium but unlike the latter 3 it has the perfect ratio of phosphorous, magnesium and potassium and these elements are essential in assisting calcium uptake. Getting piggies out in the sunshine is important too as vitamin D is also necessary for the calcium that is taken up in the bloodstream to be utilised by the guinea pig's body. Inadequate phosphorous/magnesium/potassium causes calcium to be excreted in the urine which can often be seen as white chalky deposits in the urine :) x

Evening all,

thanks for the replies and sorry for the delayed response.

It was pellets i was enquiring about. We went to our local independent pet store and he recommended Mr/Dr Johnson?
