Some advice!

We've got two male gps that we've had since July. I just noticed on one of them that their fur looked a bit tufty. I've just picked him up and had a closer look and he's got a cut on his back, about quarter of an inch. What's the best thing to do? Should I monitor it and make sure it heals or should I pop him to a vet. Doesn't seem to be bothering him at the moment. I'm wondering if they've had a scrap as their brothers!

What do you reckon?

I've had this in the past with both female and male piggies. I had a very dominant female one that bit the back of one of her friends and also Nemo did it to another young male that I kept with him and I ended up seperating them because the one that got bit was losing weight and looked very depressed.:(

I would maybe clean it with a bit of hibiscrub or something and then keep an eye on them.
 
Thanks for your reply. What's hibiscrub? Could I use an antiseptic wipe from my first aid kit? He looks a little sad but I'll keep an eye on him I think. I hope I don't have to seperate them!
 
You can get hibiscrub from vets but also get it a lot cheaper from the chemists. Last time I bought it it was about £3 for a very large bottle that lasted ages. Yes the antiseptic wipe should be okay I would think.:) or you could just bathe it with cotton wool and a bit of salt in cooled boiled water. Watch him for losing weight because that's what happened with mine - I thought he was going to die but fortunately we got him eating well again and he put all his weight back on once we seperated him from Nemo.
 
You could bathe the wound in warm salt water twice daily and then apply the spray on savlon to protect the wound.
 
Thanks for your tips. I think I've worked out what might have happened. My daughter said that this morning one of them climbed over the top of the other one. I think in doing that he may have caught him with his nail. The cut definitely wasn't there yesterday evening and it seems too coincidental that this afternoon he's got a little sore. I'll check him out again tomorrow!

Hello Kel22.

I hope all is ok with your piggie now.
Do keep an eye on his back wound because it can get infected, especially if it was a nail or bite wound.
Keep the wound clean and also keep a watch out for the piggies having a dominance thing with one getting hurt ... they probably aren't but just be aware.
