Some classic excuses...

I picked up a sow last year, she was living on her own in a hamster cage on the kitchen worktop ! The rather annebriated lady told me "she don't do nufink, she just sits there"

Quite what the lady expected her to do I have no idea, it's been a while since I've seen any guinea pig singing and dancing LOL

Anyway ............ six weeks later she gave birth to 4 babies - so at some time she must have been doing sumfink ! :(|):(|):(|)

Some people, eh? :{:(
What that previous owner said was so stupid, it is laughable! :)) Nufink in her brain, me thinks!
However, I feel so sorry for the piggy that she had prior to you looking after it.

Ages ago I got a sow from a rescue and she had been named Porky pie, her cage mate was princess myth and i cant remember the others name but they obtained these named because of the lies/excuses the previous owner had come up with

When I rehomed my two the excuse used was 'I just feel so sorry for them, they aren't getting any love/attention and they just deserve so much more - so bascially, would you give it to them'. Pile of garbage really.

You know what - I'm happy all those stupid people (who have come out with all those pathetic excuses) decided to give up their guinea pigs to rescues because at least now they will end up in new good homes with a loving new owner and have a happy ending to their wee lives. Those excuses are just absolutely terrible!

Exactly the point I was trying to make a couple of days ago... Rescued piggies will get a really loving second home with a very conscientious family...xx>>>
It's just a shame that nothing happens to those idiots who take pets and realise that they can/won't make the time for them... pow-pow

I suppose one of the positives in these situations is that the guinea pigs have been brought to a rescue where they can be looked after (and rightly so) rather than dumped somewhere they won't be found as is so often the case. It's so annoying when you hear some of the things people say though! :{

Yes, you're right. At least they have a bit of humanity (piggity?) in them.

Yup piggity is the word I was looking for! You hear so many stories about guinea pigs being dumped outside shops and vets, at least these guineas are given to a rescue and not carelessly 'thrown away'! :x

The most common I see is moving. But as most of you have already said, surely you have a choice whether or not to move into a place which doesn't accept animals the majority of the time?!

This is not as easy as it sounds.
We moved into rented accomodation, landlord told us we could keep pigs, but never gave it in writing - later changed his mind, and said pigs have to go, or you do, as you are violating your contract which says "no pets without written permission". We tried to find a property that we could a) afford with b) enough space and c) that accepted pets, and it took us over a year to find one.

We had found one previously, and the estate agent later rang and said "sorry, but your current landlord says your pets are a bit of an issue so we have been advised to let the property to somebody else! grrrr

We were lucky in so far as that we had a garage with that property and kept them outside until we found a place, but not everybody does. If we had not had the garage, we might have had to rehome our pigs - and I give heartfelt sympathy to people who have to. A year is a long time - you would not think pigs are such an issue to landlords, they are not roaming the house chewing furniture and peeing on the carpet like cats and dogs might... If we were facing being made homeless or rehoming the pigs, I know how I would decide, nevermind how much I love my pigs.

sorry to hear. I was in rented accommodationf for 2 1/2 years with the pigs in violation of contract. Thankfully the agency were rubbish and never inspected. Our pigs were roaming around and did completely resulptured the skirting boards! rolleyes we sanded and painted them before leaving...

can do what? leave their piggies behind or let them chew the skirting boards. I'm all paranoid now...:(

We have a rat called Soapy (she is very clean and washes all the time) who arrived as her owner................

had two children and was so busy she kept forgetting to feed her.:{

Poor girl was 2 years old skin and bone with a chest infection...now very much plumper living next to our sofa and fed all sorts of treats along with her regular food. Funny thing is she came here to drop them off complaining life with two children was too hectic to remeber to feed Soapy@)

Umm Dog, Fish, ducks, 40-60(I really did go a bit mad then tho lol) guinea pigs, hamster, looking after at least 4 horses 4 days of the week and running a rescue. All the animals eat before I do!

I have just been notified about a woman who has sold a heep of 2 week old pigs to the pet store as she kept getting the boys and girls mixed up and has heeps of them.GRRRRR thankfully the pet store will work with me and the rspca and keep the babies bottle fed and not sold for another 4 weeks.The previous owner is going to be prosecuted for this.

OMG, I'm so naive, I thought breeders knew what they were doing... :{ at least in terms of weaning the babies.

However, there is some justice if she is to be prosecuted. What type of 'punishment' can she expect? Fine, prison sentence, community service (she should be made to give tuime to your rescue), ban from owning and breeding pets?? pow-pow

Just give up their pets :(

I thought that but I wasn't sure... The thing is that we, on this forum, love our pets and always put them first. Other people don't but it is preferrable that they give up pets to rescues than either have them PTS or abandonned or worse... I'm convinced that a rehomed animal is 10X happier than with previous owner, it'a just a shame that they have to start so bad.

Earlier on in this thread, I was talking about this father and his son and the example he's set for him returning his sows to the shop. I suppose having children is the only time in life when you can't change your mind and take your child back to the hospital if you've changed your mind or keep forgetting to feed it! And I agree that it should be the same for animals, but it just isn't.
