Hi, I thought I would post this here as it is kind of wonderful, but also being a relatively new Guinea Pig owner (although technically they are my daughter's piggies, I just help her with them) I was also wondering does anyone else's piggy do this....

A few months ago I was reaching into the hutch to get one of the Guinea Pigs for their floor time when he climbed into my hand and up my arm, wanting to be carried. I was shocked and delighted but just thought it was an one off, stars aligning, you know the sort of thing....., but every time I get him out of the hutch, or reach to pick him up to do it after floor time he does it.

I was really surprised he did it after floor time, I could understand if it was just before, he loves floor time.

Anyway, I know Guinea Pigs are traditionally shy prey animals, and I have read lots about them not wanting to be picked up, but has anyone else experienced this? I took it that he must be happy and trust me.

He is about one year old and this is the only home he has ever had. He occasionally does this for my daughter, but always with me.

His brother still hates being picked up by the way!

Count yourself as blessed that you have such a cooperative piggy! Mine have never liked it but needs must. You could try herding the other piggy into a cuddle sack, hide or box and picking him up that way.

I do, it makes me think I must be doing okay with them. I have never read anywhere else about a Guinea Pig doing this and just wondered if it is unusual. We spoil them and give them nothing but kindness and love, but I imagine most others on this forum do that too.

How adorable! My Rosie usually acts like she’s about to get eaten! Well, it lasts for around 5 seconds, then she realises it’s snack and play time

Hi! We are relatively new guinea pig owners too.
One of our piggies Hamish likes to run onto our knee when its time for a cuddle after floor time. He will also run up my husbands arm when he goes to pick him up from the cage. Our other piggie, Hector, is more timid and loves a cuddle sack.
We joke and say Hamish thinks he‘s a cat/dog!

How lovely.
None of mine have ever done anything like that.
He must feel so loved and secure :luv:

Mine all flee and chatter their teeth if I attempt any kind of handling!

How wonderful. My two boys just about allow us to pick them up. They don’t run away but don’t relish it either. They just think ....... ok get it over with then we can enjoy floor time. 😃

I suspect Hamish will do anything to get food..... he is also a bit of a food hoover!

Aww, so cute! We have one who will let me pet him in the cage or even snuggle during floor time, but still doesn’t ever voluntarily get hand caught. He‘ll go in a cuddle sack though. I’m so surprised how trainable apparently some of them are, and I have 2 border collies! He must feel he gets rewarded for jumping in your arms! :luv:
