Some People Just Don't Understand

So anyway i was talking to mum about my girls and I mentioned that I was looking into insurance or weather it would be worth just putting money away. Anyway told her how much roughly her response was well with that wouldn't it be cheaper to just get another one. I am telling you how I didn't swing for her I will never know. Anyway I just needed a vent :-( x

I used to have exactly the same comment regarding poorly hamsters from people all of the time...sigh.

Any pet deserves vet treatment. You are doing the right thing. I save ins vet fund every month.

My parents are like that however I just end up saving my pocket money and paying for all the visits and meds that they need. I had to visit the vets about three times in a week with one of my guinea pigs and she still ended up passing over the rainbow bridge but I wouldn't have wanted to spend my money any other way

I'm lucky my mum knows how much my pigs mean to me so she'd never say something like that but when my pig Sam (RIP) was ill I had someone say can't you just buy another one which really made me angry.There are a lot of people who are ignorant.I think if you put money up each month into a savings account, that is the best way to make sure you've got money for an unexpected vets visit x

I've heard that comment all the time (one of my pigs has had some health issues and has had some quite costly medical care over the years.) I've had several people point out that I could buy a new guinea pig for thirty dollars! I always say that, while that may be true, I have the only Sundae around and I prefer to just keep her if it's all the same! Some people think that anything not a dog or cat is somehow disposable... it makes me angry. You're in the right here... every pet deserves medical care when needed, it's part of being responsible and they depend on us to do the right thing with regard to their health. Everyone here knows exactly where you're coming from!

I'm going through something similar right now...I spent £450 in vet fees for Kiwi who died last month. Yes it's a lot but vets don't charge any less because the pet is "just" a guinea pig...they didn't know what was wrong and that meant lots of visits and meds, and then surgery...there was no point at which to reasonably stop treatment. I'm not working right now and I would normally ask my Dad for help (who used to have a guinea pig as a child and dotes on my daughter) but he is in a home now and his bank look after his finances, so I asked the people in charge of his money and for the first time they declined my request for help! I am so upset...it's not just about being declined but it feels like someone has done something nasty towards Kiwi...she was such a lovely, gentle soul and I'm so upset that anyone would think she wasn't worth trying to save. I have asked for an explanation.
