Poor little guy he did look scared didn't he :o :o :o :o bless him :smitten:
I love his little leg sticking out ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

what a cutie he looks like my baby Fugly :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Thanks guys! Yeah he is pretty cute! I love how he has a white spot on top of his head, lol that was my favotire thing about him when I got him. Yeah when I first got him he was really curious about things and he got scared real easily, but now he's used to the different sounds and he seems more relaxed. I will post more pics when Ted is better, thanks! :smitten: :smitten:

Oh that's okay, hun........yeah they look similar in color. He is a little bigger than that now, of course but pretty much still looks the same. Yeah he's my precious baby!

Ted is lovely, I have replied regarding his breed within the Breed Section.

What size cage is he in?
Not trying to upset you but it looks like a hamster cage, something similar to what I used to have for my hamster. If I am correct he will be a bit too big for the plastic house and possibly look at the Housing section for cheap ideas to getting him a larger home.

he is gorgeous and I'm sure you love him but I would agree with emma about the cage, is it a bit small? :)

Yeah Emma, he is in a hamster cgae cause when I got him that was all I could afford. It;s kinda small and he no longer fits in the house lol, so now I have a log that he plays in or on. Next month I plan on getting a larger cage. He has enough room to run around in it, just kinda small, I know. Thanks for the ideas!

Leslie

i really don't want to upset you in the slightlest. but he really should have a little friend as well as piggies can get really really lonely. Is there no way you could borrow some money to get him in large cage? x

Oh I'm not upset, no worries. I have thought about getting him a friend to play wiht, just money issues are tight right now as I have other bills to pay for. It's just not a priority right now, sadly. I have too many other bills to cathc up on at the moment. But getting a biiger cage is something I want to do next month.

Just be careful because guinea pigs grow a lot bigger and he seems to be small just now. Have a look at www.guineapigcages.com where you can find out how to build a huge cage for very little money. Hamster cages aren't suitable for piggies, even temporarily.

I wouldn't think about taking on another pig until you know you can afford the one you have. Vet bills in an emergency can run into the hundreds and routine treatment for minor ailments can also be pricey - all these are part and parcel of owning a pet (and are a priority).

Oh I no that feeling, lenny was sneezingg yesterday and was bad this mornig bit of a cough (well sounds like that) and he's on anti-biotics. Just cost me £39 and need to take him back next week for a check. Got saffron booked in tomorrow as she has bald patches but no mites/lice/etc so vet wants to run tests to see whats going on, been told will cost me a lot. the veg costs a fortune as well. x

Yes I understand a hamster cage isn't suitable for a guinea pig, but right now it is the best I can do. I know that vets cost a lot of money and that it's important. I just took Ted to the vet yesterday and it costed 35 bucks just for the office visit. I understand owning a pet is expensive, as I have had hasmters in the past and a dog for awhile. I just can't do much about the cage til next month.......

I really don't want to seem mean but if for one minute I thought i couldn't afford the best for my piggies I would be re-homing them. I would be heart broken but I wouldn't think twice about the decision. I know you love him lots and I don't blame you as he is gorgeous but if you are struggling to give him the best just now how will you manage when bills increase? x

Okay I understand but I'm not going to give Ted up for nothing! He is my baby and the cage he is in right now is just fine, He has room to move around, the bottom of the cage is not wire, he seems happy, he eats just fine, I pet him cuddle him, and tell him how much I love him. I have a suitable home for him.........Sorry but i disagree. :-\

So long as he is loved and cared for I really don't see what the problem is. If you are planning on getting him a bigger cage next month, I doubt he will grow much bigger until then. I would love to buy my girls a bigger hutch but if I did, it wouldn't fit in the outhouse meaning that they would have to live outside. I would rather have them in the outhouse where it is dry and warmer in the winter and sacrifice a bigger hutch xx

Thanks Claire, yeah I know they need proper living space and such, and I would never depreive him of that. Yeah I wouldn't be able to have Ted outside no matter what, seeing as how I live in an apartment. Yeah he hasn't grwon too much. He is 8 months old now, how much bigger do they get? LOL. Thanks again!

Perhaps block off an area in a room where you can let him roam for several hours a day until you can get the new cage? :) I used to use my ironing board on it's side to block large areas and you can buy pens reasonably cheaply.

They're not fully grown until a year and one of my sows (boars are often heavier) had a massive growth spurt at 8-10 months, putting on 300g. A hamster cage is not suitable for a pig for any length of time and this is something that needs to be thought about BEFORE you take one on. Exactly how much does this "suitable" cage measure? The recommended minimum for one pig is 30" x 36".

Think how you would feel living in your bathroom for 95% of your day even if you had the best food and care in the world.

I was just assuming that he would be fully grown by now. When I was thinking about it, I was talking about my own guinea pigs who have stopped growing now :(

If they're just 8 months you might be surprised when they suddenly become chubbier! Usually they don't grow much length wise after that but they can really fill out up to a year and even beyond.

my 4 young girls are going to be really big. I was luckyy enough to see there parents who were massive. They may look littl now but i know it wont last. xx
