C&C Vs a hutch/indoor cage?
Fleece Vs Sawdust

I'd love to get myself a c&c, but they seem like such hard work :{ and I imagine that the plastic would eventually go soggy.
I'd love to hear everyone's opinions and their experiences with both!

Thanks!

I only have C&Cs, so I can't answer the pros and cons for that, but that to say, I love my C&Cs!

Fleece wise, it's recycleable, so you won't be buying and buying beddings, plus I don't really like flying beddings when they dart around/ Popcorns.

I have switched from indoors cages to C&C - without it I simply couldn't have as many piggies as I do. The same goes for switching from wood shavings/hay to fleece. My piggies had no problem with the change to fleece - they were just flopping everywhere!

Using fleece, I find it much easier and less messy to clean out my cage - and much cheaper! With 11 piggies living together in my living room, I have to do that every 2-3 days. I still use wood shavings in my hay corners and trays for the sake of smell; only newspaper at the bottom turns hay into a mushy, smelly mess far too quickly with so many piggies, especially as the hay corners also serve as toilets.

Make sure that you never overfill your washing machine with fleece blankets. Some members have done that and ended up with smelly fleeces, which has of course put them off!

I've just switched from two indoor cages to C&C's this week, looking at the measurements of a 4x2 C&C I didn't think they'd have THAT much more room, but this is a 120cm cage sat inside a 4x2 C&C

so for me, the huge plus point is the space they have.
More pros-
far easier to access for cleaning up/refilling hay etc than the little cage doors on my old cages
my corex is lower than my old cage bases so I can see them better
the fleece fits better as I can put it over the edges rather than tuck it under, so it stays neater.

Cons- mine is 2 tiered and the bottom level is quite dark, however I'm planning to rotate the piggies and the bottom level opens out for some extra floor space.

As for fleece- I used shavings originally, then hay and newspaper, but both were messy and the newspaper needed changing every 1-2 days or else it smelt, my fleece never seems to smell and both pairs use a litter tray some of the time, which has shavings under hay, so I can clean that out more often than the fleece and a bag of shavings for that has lasted me since xmas, it's easy just to sweep up the poops daily off fleece so reduces the chance of flies etc. It's also loads cheaper, less stuff to buy and store so easier for me as I don't have a car.

ETA- this is what I mean about being able to open the doors ut for floor time

oh and as for hard work- if you mean building it, the frame took me about an hour doing it with LOTS of cable ties (nearly 200 as I'm paranoid) and looking after 2 toddlers who kept trying to help, and the correx took me about 40 minutes on my own, it's a lot easier than it looks and I got great tips on here

I love C&C, I have had so many cages and even when my pair didn't bond I was able to adapt it to suit them.

I'm on my mobile so can't post pictures. I have a lot of set up's in the past.

Plastic can't go Soggy, its plastic just wipes clean :).

This is going to sound rather silly, but whats a c&c?

Mine live outside in the aviary they got lots of grass and space to run around.

I think its al down to ersonal choice what you have for them. i personally like mine outside!

I've ordered some grids from b&q and I can't wait to get mine started, they will have so much more room.

As for fleece, it's so much easier and costs less too. I changed to fleece but my washing machine is bust so i've had to go back too straw, etc till I can get it washed at my mum's. And I hate it, can't wait to get the fleece back in their cage.

C & C all the way - spacious and unique and fleece looks great and easily maintained.
We spent a fortune on different set ups until we decided on C & C - our boars have two levels, both 6ft x 2.5ft so lots of room.
The girls have 6ft x 2.5ft and we have a spare 6ft x 2.5ft set up next to it rolleyes Could be opened up into one 12ft run but we'd never find them as they are only diddy piggies.

I love c & c too. I have also gone through several variations as I've welcomed more piggies into my group.
This is my current set up. The main area is fleece and the side area is newspaper and hay. Using grids means it fits around the chimney breast.

it totally depends how big you want it, 23ish grids from B&Q is 23 quid, I needed 2 packs and my correx was $17 (pounds not dollars- my pound sign isn't working for some reason), and cable ties were about $3 so my two level cage cost about $66 (pounds grrrrr)

I would definitely go C&C, ours have so much space. I want to upgrade Nigel to one at some point, for now he is in the Skyline Maxi.

Hellsbells - how have you supported the 2nd level? Do you need any extra supports or just lots of ties?!

I think it would be ok with the ties, but I did use 180 just to be sure, but because I'm paranoid I also have a metal pole running across for added support, I would have use wooden batons but just happened to have this pole that fitted in the shed, you can see it sticking out of the end here.

Yes, what does CandC stand for? looking at pictures, I'm guessing it's something to do with an indoor set up!

Mine are also outside, I have so far not tried anything else, so maybe biased, but can't imagine using fleece. My girls love to burrow in their hay, and I don't think you'd find many guineas in their natural habitat going to bed on a fleece! :(|)

I think it stands for Cube and Correx, basically it's a homemade cage using those grids.

I think I'd use hay outside probably as it might be warmer, but mine really seem to enjoy fleece and popcorn whenever I put fresh fleece down so don't think they feel disadvantaged, I just don't find hay that practical as bedding, apart from needing LOADS to fill both cages, it needs changed every 1-2 days and I was throwing lots away and aside from the cost, I was struggling to fit it in the bin. Mine have little trays of hay I fill up twice a day and they play in there, and when it's warm they're out on the grass so don't feel they massively miss out by not having a full cage of hay.

I have a mix of both, a normal cage (with newspaper, shavings, hay) with a c anc run attached, eventually I will source Correx but until then it is rug, newspaper and a sheet rather then fleece as the sheet doesn't get the bits stuck to it so much. I am lucky as the girls tend to pee in the cage part so its not too messy at all.

Our washing maching could not cope with fleece - it struggles with the cuddle cups and sacks!

If I could find my camera I would show you pictures.......

I'd like to see your set up! That's interesting.
How have you attached the c&c to the cage?

Yes, they use the log things to help, but Sophie had moved one and was highly confused! She can get in without it but Honey is less confident.
