I put my pigs on the lawn together while i cleanede their cage, and they got in a fight, and when i went out there all i saw was a drop of blood on some lettuce so i checked my pigs only to discover Cornflakes lip is gashed right open, i don't know what to do, he's got blood all over his mouth, how do i clean it, he seems alright sortof can he die? I'm so scared, and my dad said he'll be fine so he doesn't wanna bring it to the vet. )':

how big is the cut? can he still eat? he should be fine, have you got any animal friendly wipes that are to stop infection? if not just try and keep it clean if any infection sets take to vet and just keep an eye on him and make sure he's eating and drinking fine.

Sweetheart it looks like you need to get him the vet. That looks like quite a nasty wound.

how do i clean this? or test if he can eat? what if I hurt him? )': this is all my fault.

could you very gently clean it if possible, and keep an eye on him, make sure he still can eat and drink IF any infection sets in i would take him to the vets.

Ooh, that is quite a nasty cut there.
I would bathe in warm salt water but take him to your vet to be safe, that must be really painful for the little fella. You have the added problem now of your boys fall out :(

Explain to your dad that if this becomes infected, will cost a whole heap more to treat. Better nip in the bud now hun :)

I was about to say the same thing. Explain to your dad it could get very expensive if its left. Also he will probably be in pain and might need some pain killers.

he won't be home for another six hourse now, he went to work. )':
I tried telling him that i wanna bring him to the vet but all he said was "just clean it, it will be fine" He's still cleaning himself and stuff, like ruffling his snout through his fur like he usually does, it that a good sign?

Having just brought my guinea pig back from the vets having had an abscess flushed which cost £88 (Humbug had one back in Jan, that cost me £130, her's was under her chin), I really suggest urgent treatment, as an abscess there could be very nasty and life threatening.. flush out wound with salt water for now, but press your dad :(

Have you cleaned the wound yet? How does it look? Please make sure it stays clean as best you can. If it starts to look infected or if it doesnt stop bleeding, if he loses interest in food then you have to insist your dad takes you to the vet. If you are under 18 then he has a legal responsibilty to take your piggie to the vet.

try him with his favourite treat and see if he will eat!

he's eating hay, he's not squeaking in pain or anything either, so i assume that must be good. He's acting pretty normal, but I'm gonna put himm in a smaller cage, and set him closer to my bed, and bed him on fleece, until it gets better,
do you think that'd maybe help the healing process?

I know, he seems to be doing better, i haven't cleaned it yet, i was trying to set him up a little cage with fleece, i'll go clean it right now!

That really does look like a nasty wound. Can you tell if the lip is split right through? I'm wondering if it might even need a stitch perhaps.

A trip to the Vets is definitely the best thing - no doubt about it.

If (for whatever reason) you can't do that, then please please please clean it meticulously, several times a day, with (cooled) boiled water with a little salt added. As others have said, it's also important to make sure that the bleeding stops and pay close attention to his whole behaviour, energy levels, body temperature and appetite etc. If the wound gets infected then he will probably need antibiotics and a Vet will probably need to show you how to squeeze the wound and flush out any 'gunk'. I've had to do this and, until the Vet showed me how, I had no idea how to do this properly.

Hope the poor piggy heals quickly x

Clean it with salt water, really get in there and clean it right out. You can put a bit of savlon on with a cotton bud too. Please watch out for infection, a bad smell, pus because I nearly lost my Luigi from an infected cut :( he was quite poorly. I really think your Dad should take him to the vets. It's not your fault hun if your under 18 x

Also, please make sure that you check all of your pigs over, thoroughly, every bit of their skin/body, checking under their hair. It could be possible that Cornflakes or another pig has a wound which isn't so obvious. My Sister's boars had a fight but no injuries were apparent and there wasn't even any blood around. Basically you couldn't tell but one had been bitten quite badly, so it was missed. It was only when he became lethargic and not quite his usual self that they checked again and discovered a puncture wound (tiny hole to the skin but very deep under the surface) which had become infected. It needed a lot of Vet treatment and squeezing/flushing at home to get it cleared and could easily have cost him his life if she hadn't spotted the subtle signs in his behaviour.

his energy seemed to be down a tiny tiny bit, but it seems to be picking back up, he's eating and i cleaned the wound with some sal****er and a qtip it looks like it was split right through but it's healing together.

his energy seemed to be down a tiny tiny bit, but it seems to be picking back up....

I'd expect him to be a bit shaken when it first happened, so that'd be normal. Now that he's settling down a bit, check how he is from now on and compare that with how he usually is, ie when he's well. Poor little man! :)

Oh noooooo whee are really sorry to hear about little Cornflake :(:...

HUGE HEALING WHEEEEEEEEKS FOR CORNFLAKE XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Good idea to put him on fleece love.

I talked to my dad and he's agreed to take me. I'd be paying which is no problem as long as it's under 150$ cause that's about all I have saved, (but I could obvs borrow from my dad.) I called a vet, I'm not taking Cornflake right away, because he seems to be doing well, he's still eating and drinking, and cleaning himself, he's not squeaking in pain or any of that, but i'm gonna watch him for the next few days and if he changes in any way i'm making a call to the vets right away! Thanks everybody, for helping me out and stuff. I went outside to find my piggy slashed, and maimed then I realized one of my rabbits had made it into the storage half of my basement, because I left the door open by accidentwhen I rushed to check on Cornflake, so I was crying my eyes out, holding a bloodied up guinea pig, and trying to search amongst hundreds of boxes in a dark basement for my mischevious rabbit. I realy had know clue what to do, I was panicing. What a day...
Anyways, I'll let y'all know how he's doing in a few days. :)

awwwww HUGS love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'm glad your Dad has agreed to take you....... perhaps what you could at least do is call the vets and ask for some advice...... :) tell them what you've already done :)
whee'll have all paws crossed that Cornflake will A OK xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

I have to agree, go to the vet, convince your dad that it IS an emergency that would be like taking a chunk from the corner of your mouth up to your nostril. He needs a vet and quite possible closed back up. That looks awful. Poor little Corkflake I hope that you keep Cornflake and Walter separated now. Infection can start very quickly and because it's on his mouth it's going to be harder to keep it clean where they eat their own poo there has to be some nasty bacteria going from his bum to his mouth. I would try very hard to see a vet. Good luck and lots of hugs and cuddles for Cornflake.

Oh and remember, Guinea Pigs are prey animals so they can hide pain very well and you may not notice a change in him until it's to late if you wait, and the longer you wait if infection does get to it then the cost can be much more for antibiotics and such.
