Just seen this ad

''Female texel guinea pig 7 months (pregnant) so all babies will be texels. comes with large outdoor hutch and all accessories plus half large sack food to last a while''

& had to ring her to find out and she says the texel was in with a male about 5weeks ago - she wants money for them but so i said about possibly surrendering the guinea pig to a rescue and that way she could still sell the hutch and the guinea pig would be safe. I went on to say about how dangerous it would be to sell her pregnant and she said she wudnt give her to a rescue she has a breeder friend she could ask to have her while shes pregnant n til she gives birth then she could sell her. Ive left my number with her if she cant get her friend to take her or if she gets stuck.

I really wish i was in a position to do more

Shes in rotherham south yorkshire

Why wont she just give the piggie up :( Shes advertising her all over :(

I'd take the guinea pig in because I have space and can deal with the potentially troublesome pregnancy but I don't live in South Yorkshire!

Some people are just ridiculous, why get a guinea pig only to get it pregnant then sell it...

That's really not good. Would Milhaven not take her?

I would help if I was closer but not really an option for me. Maybe you could pass her details onto a rescue who could offer advice.

I'm just looking for the closest rescue to rotherham - where is milhaven? x

She sounds a nice lady and what she says about judging people that want to buy her sounds positive but by selling the guinea pig with an outdoor hutch itl b kept outdoors & will probly give birth outdoors , if what she says is right its over half way so babies wont be far off. Cant bear to think of babies out in this cold weather :(

I also agree Milhaven is going to be the closest, hopefully the lady will have a change of heart and decide to surrender her.

I looked how far Rotherham is from me and it'd be a 4 hour round trip, although I'm in a position to have the pig looked at by a vet regularly if needs be and keep her indoors, sex and separate babies etc, I can't drive 4 hours at the moment.

nasty people :( why get the pig pregnant if you can't care for it?

Wonder if anyone could piggy train her to you Natalie?

I'm not close enought to help with that but maybe it's the first task for the Piggy Bank....

Shes advertised the guinea pig a week ago on preloved for £50 but today is only wanting £40

Ive just sent her a text msg off my old phone asking how much she would want for the guinea pig without the hutch.

Shall i get in touch with millhaven ?x

You could ask them for advice. They may know someone locally that could take her on.

She needs to surrender to a rescue really so there is paperwork to confirm she agreed to hand her over otherwise she could demand her back at a later point.

Give them a call and I'm sure we'll all keep thinking of options. I'm dying for a pair oftexels but not sure a pregnant mum is the way to go!

I'm in Sheffield which is not far from Rotherham. I found her advert on Preloved but am not a member. Can anyone pm me the seller's phone number.

I've already got 6 piggies but am sure I can find room for more.......

my concern is, if someone pays for this guinea pig will she just get another female and get her pregnant thinking she can make money like this

Wait until you know more - there are a few rescues in the area and a Piggy Bank member too.

Milhaven, Cavy Corner, BARC and Bramleys have started up again too. It will depend on who is closest and has space.

I'll get in touch with the PB member and point her in the direction of this thread.

Ok messaged. When situations like this arise that the Piggy Bank can help with please message me, this way the nearest member can be contacted asap.

I agree, give anywhere that might be able to help or give advice a call. I'm sure a lot of rescues are experienced in helping owners such as this lady make the right decision to give the poor girl up. I'm not really up to date with rescues that aren't regularly discussed on the forum or others than aren't in my immediate area.

If the situation arises and anyone does want to piggy train her up to me I could take her from Monday (currently in the midst of a piggy shuffle since my 8ft by 2ft arrived), I'm in Wrexham. I'd be in a position to rehome Mum for life and potentially babies or atleast provide a stop gap for her to have an indoor birth with someone experienced.

Preloved:
For sale 6month old texel female guinea pig has been mated, comes with large sturdy outdoor hutch half a sack (not bag) food and full large compacted bale of shavings that will last months. All accessories included 2 water bottles and 2 food bowls also play hut in hutch reluctant sale everything to go together

Shes just said she wants £20 just for the piggy or £40 for it all.

Sounds it to it might of been accidental or realised she doesnt have the time/room for babies - i dont know I'm just guessing. I would HAPPILY pay £20 for somebody to help this guinea pig. I really need to help this piggy and thats the only way i can. She needs somebody confident with pregnancies as she doesnt know dates or anything. just a guess at 5 weeks ago.

Will wait to her from this PB member i think or if a piggytrain can b sorted for natalie x

The forum has a policy of not promoting adverts for sale or free ads advertising animals, for that reason the Freeads Section was closed. I understand that many newer members will not be aware of this, it was done to prevent so many genuine rescue cases from being over looked.

If money is to change hands for any pig it must be done off forum and not involve the Piggy Bank.

Money changing hands for animals goes against everything that rescues stand for, please do not encourage it by paying for a 'rescue' case.

I completely agree with you - the only reason i said it was because after speaking with her i cannot see her giving up this piggy - she said it herself she wouldnt do it. That is why i said it - if the only way of getting this piggy out is it to pay i would.

Anyway - Best of luck saltnpeppers mum i have her mobile number if its not on preloved.

I really hope you can make her see sense x

Well, she said she had someone going to look at the piggie but told me if they didnt turn up she would text me. She's just text to say the piggie has gone.

It could be a member on here?

Rotherham is 10 miles away from me and I foster piggies for BARC, we have a number of foster mummys who are experienced with pregnant sows.

I just hope she is getting the home she needs, indoors, with extra vitamin C and a good vet incase she needs one.

Yes, it is me!!
I drove over there straightaway before I had time to think rationally!!

And now Flossy is settling in to her new home.

She seems quite traumatised and is hiding in the hay but I noticed she has had some of the greens I'd left for her.

Her owners were letting her go as they had poodles who were constantly jumping at the hutch and frightening her. They are not getting anymore guinea pigs and gave me a huge bag of dried food along with her hutch etc.

The hutch is so big and solid that it filled the back of my estate car and took 3 strong lads to get it into my garden!

Flossy is likely to be about 5 weeks pregnant as she was with a male for about 4 weeks. She is 7 months old but is really small (10 ounces, about 750g). I can't feel babies yet but haven't tried very hard. I will weigh her regularly.

She does have a bald patch on her back which is probably mites. Should I treat her with Ivermectin if she is pregnant?

hi i have a rescue girlie (betty) a texel who is due to give birth any day now she has a huge bald patch on her back ive put sudocreme on it and been to the vets the vet said it looks like she has mites but wont treat her until she has nursed the babies, so dont know if that helps:{
good luck with her she is beautiful x

Dont use ivermectin on her when she's pregnant. I'm not sure why but the vet told us not to when our pregnant sow had bald patches. The bald patches can be caused by pregnancy, something to do with hormones :{
So glad you got her! x>>

She is a beautiful little thing. I really hope everything goes smoothly for all concerned.

Do you have much experience of pregnant piggies?

Good luck

Aww that's lovely! She really doesn't look like a texel but she is a VERY pretty girl! x) Let us know how it goes.

Well done for rescuing this poor little piggy. You are so kind. I hope she is well. Poor little thing.
