She is lovely isn't she! But she is so slight and so timid. I am wondering about introducing her to my old lady pig Honey who is 6 years old. She's had 1 litter so could pass on a few tips! She is very gentle too.

Hubby is away at the moment so I've just "confessed" on the phone. I didn't tell him she may be pregnant though! Whoops!:x

I'm no expert in pregnant piggies but that sounds like it would be good - best to ask the pros on here tho :))

Haha good timing then!

She does have a bald patch on her back which is probably mites. Should I treat her with Ivermectin if she is pregnant?

The bald patch could also be fungal/ringworm - which can be passed on to humans - so you will need to be extra vigilant with cleaning and hygiene (i.e regular cage cleaning, regular hand-washing and wearing gloves/disposable clothing such as aprons when handling her) Personally as she's pregnant anyway i wouldn't be handling her unless absolutely necessary.

Your first port of call should be a trip to a cavvy savvy vets to have her checked out and get the appropriate/correct medication for her bald spot.

Please, please, please DO NOT introduce her to any of your current pigs until you've gone through a 2-4wks quarantine period and seen a vet - do you have her in the same room as your current pigs? If so, please consider moving her in to another room until she's been diagnosed for her current bald patch problem. If it is in fact mites, then she will need to stay alone until she's had the pups (and can get correct treatment) or (depending on severity) been treated for them and they have cleared. If it's fungal/ringworm - again this is highly contagious and so you will need to get it treated - this can take weeks (i had one of my sows quarantined for over 7wks until she'd fully cleared of her fungal infection - so it can be a lengthy treatment period) - As she's pregnant, ive got no idea what treatment she can/can't have, that'll be for a qualified vet to decide.

Advice i always give is it's easier to treat one single pig than a collection of poorly pigs!

It's commendable that you've taken her in - i just hope you haven't taken on too much :{

On a side note - do you have any idea on her breed?

I was just reading through the previous pages and feeling anxious about her being taken by some unknown person... like a 'Happily Ever After' story, she was taken by someone on here :) So happy for her!

She's a beautiful little girl too! I'd say she's a cross more than anything else, just from that photo of her. Definitely got something like Texel in her, she looks like a fluffy sheepy :))

And I'd agree about the skin problem, my boy Todd has had bad skin every year since I got him and his brother in 2008, but I'm almost positive that's ringworm, but I've used Spot On with Ivermectin in before and it's just eased it. I've just been extra careful when his skin flares up, like at the moment again actually. I'd keep her completely away from every other critter you have (and yourself as much as possible) until her skin is better, but like someone else said, seeing as she's pregnant, she shouldn't be fussed over too much right now.

:)
