Hey guys, I have just joined! I just need to ask there is something that is in my guinea pigs bottom (which looks like poo) which is slightly sticking out, but he is pooing normally. Please ask if you need more details, I’m just concerned on what it is and it’s not moving and it’s been there for a few days.;)

Hi and welcome

Could you please post a picture and give you more information about your piggy - is it a boar or a sow and how old is he/she?

Here is how you upload pictures: How To Post Photos

So it’s a male guinea pig and I got him last year so he’s just under a year old, and sorry about the photo

Your boy looks like he has impaction and will need cleaning out regularly from now on. It is unfortunately a rather smelly job. About 10% of older boars get affected by it. It would be good if you had your boy checked by a vet.

You can in the milder stages make the impact easier with a very strict and high fibre diet; it may even disappear for a while, but you need to keep and eye on him and check him daily.

Please take the time to read these two guides; you will find them very helpful. The impaction guide contains several videos and diet advice.

Ok thank you so much and I will read all info ☺️

It would be good if you had him vet checked. He is a bit young for impaction, and there could be something behind it that is causing it. Please have all his bits checked. They impact on each other.

I have got a boar with an inoperable hernia, which causes impaction and also a very quick build-up of smegma around his penis, so I need to 'service' him every three days at the moment.
