Nibbles, my gray and white pig, has something wrong with his eye! Last night I was feeding him and when he turned I saw that his eye was bulging out and it was was a foggy white with a large solid white dot in the middle and the whole eye is rimmed with red! We are going to take him to the vet as soon as possible but we are having trouble finding a cavvy friendly vets emergency office! But I was just wondering have any of your pigs had this happen? Do you know what it is?

Thanks so much for finding that for me! From what I read it seems like he has diabetes which caused a rapid onset of cataracts? Well hopefully I will find out tomorrow when I take him to the vet.

Hi there!
I'm also having issues with my little one's eye and was doing some reading today after I noticed that her eye looked white with red all round it.
I found the following quote on Cavymadness:
"eye injuries

If you notice a white cast over the eye, chances are it's either a cataract or an injury. The latter is most often the case, though: if a guinea pig's eye is injured by a sharp blade of hay or a scratch, the eye will respond by creating a cataract-like cover, causing temporary blindness, so that the eye muscles can rest. Eye ointments are available from your vet. You gently rub over the eye for a few days; if the eye does not clear up within two or three days, consult your vet. "

So it is likely that your little one just got a scratch on his eye, but it is a good idea to get a vet to check it out!
Good luck!

Sounds more like glucoma, which is more common in diabetics. Sounds like i think everything is it but what your describing is typical of it. I do hope hes ok, please let us know how you get on. Good luck.

x.
