Recently I've noticed Borris' eyes have been watery, the fur around them is wet. I thought he was okay apart from that but today he is not himself. He's been quite slow and seems to have lost his appetite. The bag of bedding was much more dusty than usual which I thought explained the eyes. I have just finished building a wooden kids playhouse outside for them to be out in summer and they have been out during the day for a couple of days. Has this affected him? I'm really worried and it couldn't have come at a worst time as I have exams tomorrow and Wednesday :(

I am sorry he is poorly. He really needs to see a vet, it could be allergies but I would have not expected his being out of sorts if it was so it is most likely a URI. How is his breathing?

His breathing is a bit off. Can't get him to the vet until tomorrow afternoon at least. Is there anything I could do in the meantime?

Does he seem snuffly? You could use a steam inhaler with 2 drops of Olbas oil and hold it over his nose in 5 second bursts or if you don't have one you could put some in a bowl of water next to his cage.

I'm not sure if he's snuffly, I've never dealt with anything like this before. He's breathing quite heavily, rocking forward when he breathes, but I'll do it anyway.

Do you have an emergency vet he could see today? Laboured breathing is worrying and there is nothing I can suggest for that apart from medication from the vet. He may have fluid on his chest and would need a diuretic or it could be because his nose is bunged up. Is he eating?

My mum won't let me take him to the vet until after my maths exam tomorrow! He isn't interested in veggies but he is drinking.

Are you able to syringe feed at all? If you are though please take it slowly due to his breathing problems.

I know it's very difficult when you have to ask parents to take you to the vet but your guinea sounds really quite unwell. If it is a respiratory infection they can get worse pretty quickly sometimes so I would really say he needs a vet sooner rather than later. Can you ask your mum again about getting him seen by a vet?

I was thinking the same, would she be able to take him while you stay at home and revise? Is it your GCSE exam? I know if it were me I would be able to concentrate better knowing my pig had seen a vet, could you explain that to your Mum?

Get him there ASAP don't put it off I didn't put off my poorly piggie, he had breathing problems too, I still lost him. Time is important for piggies could of been ill for a while and he's covered it up.please keep us informed xx good luck with your exams. My grandson starts his tomorrow too x

Bless you Hun x an ill piggy and exams... Just try and get him to the vet as soon as u can x in your exam try not to think about it (Ik it will be hard) but it's best to get the levels u need as u have put loads of effort in until now x tOmorrow after your exams take him straight to the vet x bless you Hun x me and the piggies are wishing u good luck on both your exam and little borris x get well soon piggie x
George will be helping him by keeping him company though x
Try and do what @helen105281 has said! Could your mum take him to the vet tomorrow? Good luck I'm always here if u need to chat Hun x (not like we do every day... Heh:tu::raz::lol!:)

How's borris now Hun? Is he better?

Any news on little borris yet. Hope your exam went well x

Any news?

Sadly Borris passed away on Tuesday before I could get him to the vet. I'll put up a thread about him later, just been so busy lately and now this :( If it had been my decision he would have been straight to the vets that night but to my mum taking a guinea pig to an emergency vet on a bank holiday at night because he was breathing funny just seemed ridiculous. Some people don't see piggies the way we do. Thanks for your help everyone. @helen105281

I'm so sorry for you and poor Boris. You're not to blame, you were in an awful position and I just hope your mum will learn from this for the future.
RIP Boris x

I'm so sorry that you lost him :(

Please don't blame yourself, and try and not be too angry with your mum. Deep down she had your best interests at heart but hopefully she will learn if there is ever a next time.

Sleep tight Boris xx

Awww I'm so sorry Hun x rip little borris x he was a handsome pig too! Little George will never forget him! X I feel so sorry for u... I really really do! x message me if u need to talk x

I am sorry you lost your piggy :( As he passed away so quickly, it could be he had a URI or even pneumonia that came on very quick & even if you had got him to the vets Monday it sounds like it wouldn't have made any difference to the outcome unfortunately. I hope you are okay & that the rest of your exams go well despite the upset x

RIP Borris. Hope you have done well with your exams too. I lost my dog during exams and know how you will be feeling xx
