Hello everyone.
I got Squeaky out of his cage today and found out that he has a swollen and hard area around his 'nipple' area. He squeals when i touch it.
He is already on osteocare and metacam because of his bone issues, but he has been on that since last august so no different than what he's used to. Does anyone know what this could be?
We have already booked him into the vets for 1pm (the earliest they open) but I am wondering if this is really serious and whether I need to brace myself for the worst or not....
Unfortunately no pictures as I am on my phone at the mo.
Thanks for reading xx

Hi maybe a sebaceous cyst? Or it's a little infection? Maybe a hay poke?

Sending loads of loves and wheeeeeeeeeeeeks for Squeaky XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Thanks Glynis.
I am really hoping its not too serious, because he's already quite old and weak, so I dont think he would survive the treatment/operation if it was anything serious like a cyst :(

Perhaps a cyst? I don't have any experience with boars, so I'm not any help.
Sending lots of (((((hugs))))) and piggy kisses

Could be a cyst or an abcess, Rocket had one when he was little next to his nipple. It came up very quickly overnight, I think he poked himself on a willow tunnel at some point. Impossible to hazard much of a guess without pictures though. The vet got all the gunk out and gave him an antibiotic shot. He was fine afterwards and the hole healed very quickly. Try not to worry too much, you'll be seeing the vet soon. Hope he's okay.x

Is it around his "bits" or nipple? Nipples aren't really genitals, I'm a bit confused?

If he has a lump near his nipple then it could be a harmless lump, although if he is not happy for you to touch it, then it obviously needs investigating by a vet anyway to rule out any serious problems. Some pigs do develop lumps as they get older, but they should always be checked out anyway. :)

If it's not doing any harm they may recommend not to do anything?

It has only just come up over night so I'm not sure whether its nothing or whether it'll get worse....
It bothers him when I touch it but he doesnt seem to take any notice or show any pain when he's sitting normally, but piggies are very good at hiding pain so maybe its more serious than it looks...
I am trying not to worry and making him as comfy as I can for the moment xx

Sorry I'm not very good at explaining :{
I mean that the area around his nipples are all swollen, but he doesnt like it when I touch anywhere around that area an he squeals in pain when I touch his genitals (which I need to do every now and then to help him release his feces because it occasionally gets a bit clogged up...)
Apoligies for the confusion, I'm terrible at explaining things, especially when I'm a bit panicky like this! Xx

It's ok when you're under pressure and upset it's really hard to think straight whee all understand that XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

He might be a bit of a er....complainer just cause he thinks you're going to help him by cleaning him out.....they get to know patterns! and they love to worry us more ! :))x)

WHee'll check tomoro (sorry nearly bedtime here in OZ for me) and see what's happened......... GOOD LUCK XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

The vet said it could either be...
A build up of 'manly' stuff (thats the term she used!)
A cyst
Or a tumor :(
We are really hoping its not a tumor...

Oh dear I hope not! What are they going to do next for him? Will he have an x-ray?

Forgot to say on my last post that she said it could just be inflamed for some reason or another. She has prescribed him with some medication to help, and if it is just inflamed then hopefully it'll go away during the week because of the medicine, but if not then we are taking him back next weekend when she'll do some tests etc. I just really hope its not a tumor 8...

They were going to take a sample today but then decided to try out the anti -inflammitory medicine first.
He absolutely hates the medicine, bless him!
I'm just hoping it clears up in the week, because we would have to take a long hard think as to whether to put him through the operation if it is a tumor or a cyst. He's already old, and weak from all his other problems so probably wouldnt survive the anasthetic :(

Oh love whee will have all paws and fingers crossed that the meds sort out Squeaky's nipples XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Cross that bridge when if you get there. Lets hope the anti-inflammatory's help. There is no need for an aneasthetic for a sample, so see how you go and then make a decision. How old is he?

x.

I'm worried because it feels like it is getting bigger and going deeper into his body, wheras before it felt more near the skin...

Just got back from the vets.
The vet took some samples and has decided that its likely to be an abcess. We have booked him in on friday so she can lance it properly. She also removed another very small lump from his penis which was probably causing him a lot of pain so he's more comfortable now :)

Aw poor little thing, my Daisy had an abscess removed by operation about a month ago, now she is fine & has made a wonderful recovery :))

Healing vibes for tomorrow. :laluot_29:

Hope everything goes well at vets tomorrow x
