My little girl lost one of her kidney back in August after a very long recovery I thought she was out of the woods but i was wrong.
She's been thinner than I'd like her to be ever since her surgery back in August and the past few weeks had lost a bit of weight but was still very active, was eating and had a very good appetite. I put her back on recovery food to help put her weight up but today I came in to find her looking very lethargic,I picked her up and her weight has dropped considerably overnight. She feels like skin and bones.
I'm taking her to the vets tonight and hoping for a miracle but I think I might be losing her. :(
Please keep your fingers crossed for my darling girl. Hopefully the vets will give me some good news.

Paws crossed for you and Sookie, from me, Lily and Lola. You couldn't have done any more feeding wise, as you say she already had a very good appetite, so you'll have to see what the vet says, and hope for the best.

Paws crossed. I know how you feel having lost a poorly pig myself this week. I hope there is a positive answer for you and Sookie.

Thanks all for your healing vibes.
The vet says her remaining kidney is enlarged and it's likely that whatever happened to the kidney they removed is happening to the one she has left. She's been given some steroids which apparently help kidney disease in dogs and cats and we're seeing how she goes but it doesn't look good. :(
She's had lots of cuddles from me and is now busy stealing broccoli from her friend Rio so she's still got some fight in her.

Thank you. I'll keep you all updated.

Plenty of fight left in her is a good sign, she'll do the best she can and you need to stand by and support her to be the best and happiest she can. It's a hard thing but they are so much braver than us.

Keep fighting for her and let her know how much she is loved. x

This. I really couldn't have put it any better myself.
Ultimately it is the best thing you can do, to keep her happy and comfortable and she will be grateful for it. You just have to keep positive and make the most of the time that she has, cherish each day and make it special for both you and her. She has fighting spirit so hopefully she will want to stay for some while longer yet x

I am very sorry for the bad news! Make the best of the time you have left, and keep her as happy and comfy as you can. Love can make every single day special and precious. I hope that she has still a bit to go with you!

so sorry to hear this, poor wee girl, i know how you feel, I lost 2 boys last year to kidney failure, caramel 3years, caramel was diagnosed in july a couple days later, he died and toby 3years, toby was diagnosed when he was 9 months he gave up on the 29th of december 2013, all i can say is give all the cuddles and enjoy your time with her, its special, make every day count, my thoughts are with both of you. xx

I'm pleased to report she's a lot perkier this morning. Don't know if the steroids will help her in the long run but they certainly seem to be doing something.
She's been spending most of her time either having cuddles with me or being snuggled up with her daughter Sherbet, it's good to know Sherbs is their to give her comfort when I'm unable to.

The steroids will make her feel a lot perkier. I am so glad Sherbet is there for her to do some snuggling. She is obviously very special and had a lot to deal with so just keep loving her!

Took Sookie to the vet for a check up today. The vet thinks she's doing very well all things considered, she's certainly a lot more active than she was earlier this week and when he felt her abdomen she didn't squeak in pain like she did at her last vet visit which is a very good sign. Main focus now is on getting her weight up.
My only other worry is that her bum has got a bit mucky over the last few days, I tried cleaning it with a wet bit of tissue but it didn't help much. Not wanting to give her a bath when she's ill as I don't want her getting too cold when she's wet. Any tips?

Pleased to hear they are happy with her progress. Good idea by piggie fan above, lots of love to Sookie x

Ok, I will buy these :) Thank you piggyfan. They should also come in handy when cleaning her up when she has her recovery food and gets it all over her chin.

Mine hate having their chins wiped and act like I am killing them! Good luck.

Oooh I'm lucky Sookie doesn't mind having her chin wiped, the only problem is she tries to eat the tissue paper I'm using to wipe her chin. :P
