Junior Guinea Pig
Hi everyone,
This morning I took my youngest boar Stan to the vets as he's hurt his eye, noticed it yesterday when I got home from work, it looked like a small scratch across the top of his eye and the white area at the top was swollen and bloodshot. (He does have red eyes anyway so it was fairly hard to spot)
This morning his eye was very swollen and dry looking as he's having trouble closing his eye due to the swelling, so we rushed off to the vets.
The vet gave him a good check over and decided that it looks like he has an eye infection from some kind of external trauma. His teeth and everything looked ok.
She prescribed antibiotic eye drops (Fusidic acid) 1 drop twice a day, lubricating eye drops (Viscotears) to be applied every 2-3 hours and metacam twice per day.
Stan has been really good and let me get the drops in but I'm just worried that his eye looks terrible and I'm not sure how quickly I should expect to see some improvement?
The vet wants to see him again on Monday morning to assess progress but she did say if there is no improvement by then it may mean he needs to lose his eye! Does that sound a bit hasty?
Would just appreciate some advice from someone who's been in a similar position.
Thanks
Carolyn
