Sore eye

I've woke up this morning to find my Willow has a sore eye that she's not opening fully. I can't get her to the vets till tomorrow as I'm at work and have no one else to take her. I think it's hay poke. Is there anything I can do in the mean time to help her. I feel awful.

Just grab a cotton ball and wipe it on the eye softly but firmly to take out any crustyness. Make sure the cage isn’t that dirty so it won’t get infected even more. Try just switching to flannel or a towel until you can take him to the vet so he feels comfortable and make sure he is still active and eating and pooping. If he stops doing this things, that’s when you know you need to take him to the vet immediately

Thanks, I cleansed it with saline thus morning. It improved a little but then I had to leave for work😣 I cleaned them out last night and they are on fleece. Luckily my vet opens Saturday morning so she has an appointment first thing. Just hope it's not gotten worse when I get home..

I think that as long as they are eating and drinking and dropping feces, he can hold of till tomorrow. If they do stop eating, it is and emergency and you should try getting critical care and feed it as instructed. When my guinea pig had a sore eye he holded it for about a day and he went to the vet with only minor things. I will say there are many things that could’ve caused this like conjunctivitis, hay poke, or a URI. Make sure you keep us updated about the sypmtoms. Hope the best!💕
 
Yes she's eating and drinking as normal, just looking a little sorry for herself. I got some optrex eye wash as I saw it mentioned as safe to use on here. I'll bathe the eye in intivals to try and keep her comfortable till the morning. And giving her lots of veggie treats! I suspect it's hay poke, as far as I can see there's nothing left in her eye. Vets at 9am tomorrow and it can't come soon enough!
 
UPDATE - This morning whilst batheing willows eye I managed to find and remove the pesky piece of hay causing the trouble. She has now seen the vet and unfortunately the damage has caused an ulcer. She has some eye drops to use twice a day for a week then back to the vets for a check up. Poor thing, hope things soon improve!
