Typically this happens late on a sunday but Iv just noticed one of my guineas (I have 2 young girls) has a sore looking eye. Its just the one so I'm thinking shes probably got a bit of hay dust in it because she does love a good burrow in her hay, Iv bathed it with water but it looks quite swollen and the corner nearest her nose looks like it has a misty gel over it. not quite sure what to make of it. I will be ringing the vets in the morning for advice and an appointment but what else can I do for her in the mean time?

I will try and get a photo up shortly.

Thanks

She might have been poked in the eye by the hay. There really isn't much you can do until you get to the vet, except keeping her eye away from hay to prevent further injury.

Good luck at the vet xx

I agree with hairlesswillow, sounds like it could be a hay poke injury. She needs to see a vet, they will most likely give her an antibiotic eyedrop called fucithalmic to give her. I have used this on one of my pigs before although not for an eye poke injury and it cleared up within a week.
Hope she gets better soon x
