Ehab tends to sit in his wee and as a result he has sore feet. I move him about and twice a day apply f+m ointment to his feet but this does not seem to be doing anything. I am very worried about him. The vet just said to move him about and there is nothing they can do. Does anybody have any advice?

Try some carillon spray. You can get it from pharmcy. It's a human spray that's used for sore areas etc. it's excellent for humans and worked well on boris eps feet. When we rescued him his feet were sore and split open, and this helped protect and heal them. Hope this helps

I'm sure that there is something from gorgeous guineas for sore feet. I may be wrong but it's worth having a look!

I use Johnsons Tea Tree soothing cream. Buddy's feet are always getting red and sore but I put this on every other day after I clean them out and he is fine now. I actually did a review on the blog here.

Hope his feet are feeling better soon.

I use f+m ointment which is from gorgeous guineas. It does not seem to be working though. I worry that using a human product may be bad for him as he licks his feet and if he ingests it he can become unwell.

Oops sorry didn't realise what you are using is from GG! I totally understand what your saying about using human products and I don't think I would want to use a human product on my pigs. If you can't find anything then I
sure your vet would be able to give you something to try.

be careful its not an infection as well as sore feet. My girl had bumble foot, I paid for abiopsy and she had MRSA in it too! We use a topical antibiotic twice a day and oral antibios as well. The condition is called bumblefoot. It looked nothing as bad as the photos you see on google until a week later when they were swollen and crusty.

Try bedding on hay the pee and poops fall down between the strands so he will not be sat caked in it. But this will need changing 2/3 times daily. Also, I use newspaper as it is easy to whip up and change to keep his feet dry.

Your vet might not know what to do to keep him from lying in his poo but I'm surprised they havent suggested ways of keeping his cage dry and his feet free from infection.

if you want to try, liquid plasters/new skin in boots can be used, but i found it fell off halfway through the night. It is useful for keeping the skin protected from the acid though. Equally, we tried dentisept as a softer stickier barrier but this became gummy in contact with urine and refused to dry when topping it up. We bandaged the foot for 2 days until the biopsy site started to scab then air dried it and put on fucidin cream (also available from a pharmacist with your vets prescription letter). The MRSA in our guineapig is sensative to this, though there are man types of MRSA.

good luck.. and try with paper/hay to keep his cage dry x

The vet saw his feet and just said his feet are sore from urine. He is bedded on vet bed.

Ehab saw a vet today. She said his feet are not infected and there is nothing that can be done for him other then to keep applying the ointment. There is no need to have any medication and his feet can be bathed often. She said it is due to lazyness which I did not like her saying. He is old now and very tired. She did say he is healthy though which is good. I just feel sad as she said he will always have this problem. Poor little man.

On any sore area's my piggies have had, - fungal, mites or sore feet, i have always applied sudocream, its always worked very well, it is made for babies botties, so i am sure it will be ok for piggies, and i am sure the smell will put him off licking it. xx

Nibbles occassionally has this issue. But I bed him on hay and since using the tea tree cream his feet look fine. I just get people to encourage him to wake up and move around when they are in the living room. He is a little old boy too at 6 and a half.

How old is he?

Big Dave is lazy. He sits in his pigloo, and subsequently urine, all day. I move his pigloo around 2 or 3 times a day just to change where he's sitting.

If Ehab's feet are sore due to urine, cleaning them twice daily with plain water, just a quick wipe, then applying sudocreme or Vaseline to give a "waterproof" layer. Try having a break from the f&m ointment, there could be something in it that is contributing to his sore feet.

He is four. I never thought the ointment could be making things worse! I will have a break then.

You never know, a change could be as good as a rest. Maybe try the Vaseline and see if it works as a barrier?

I washed his feet today and put vaseline on. I had him all wrapped in a towel but he just wanted to go back to his cage!
