I'm not sure what's normal and what's not with piggy feet... but I've noticed Jemima has some rough, crusty bits on her's.

When I push her pads she doesn't react and she has no trouble walking around. There's no bleeding at all (it's hard to see if there's redness or swelling because the skin on her front feet is mainly black).

I realise, walking around all day, the feet aren't going to be baby bottom smooth ... but the crusty bits are like a browny colour and it doesn't look nice/comfortable for the little one.

I've googled bumblefoot and read everything on this forum about that, and I don't think she's suffering with this particular complaint to be honest.

Anyone had anything similar?

Sounds like she may have foot spurs, which are nothing to worry about and is basically hard skin. They can be trimmed off although personally I would seek a vets help to do this!

I've just googled "foot spurs, guinea pig" and (despite some disgusting images that are nothing to with my search) the ones that are relevant do look like what she has.

My Joey has a small one on his front foot, but it's too small to do anything with at the moment, they don't cause them any pain :)

She seems to have quite a lot on one foot. Her skin is dry as well and a bit cracked. Do you know if it helps to provide something rough in the cage to toughen the skin up a bit and act as a natural abrasive? Sorry to bombard you with questions.

From what I've read about them on guinea lynx, its best to steer clear of anything too abrasive, in case it causes infection, so I wouldn't worry about adding anything to the cage. If she has a few I would have a go at trimming them next time you clip her nails, just not too close to the foot to avoid it bleeding! I've never attempted it myself, as Joey only has one small one which doesn't cause him any bother

Gosh. I feel a little faint just thinking about this. If I ever hurt her I'd cry for the rest of my life. I'll have a hunt on guinea lynx - thinks for reminding me about that site. I'll try and take a picture later. Thanks for all your help x

Was looking after a friend's pair of piggies and one had what I thought was a bit of brown manky debris stuck in his foot. Took him to the vet and he told me what it was and simply cut it off. No problem :) If I had known I could have done the job with human nail clippers. Do leave a small nub though else it may bleed.

Have you got a photo? x

I tried to take a pic last night and Jemima went mental and would only calm down when I gave her a grape and let her watch TV... wait... was I had there?

Actually, most of the little crusty bits have gone (maybe she'd stood in poop when I looked before?) and there's just a small cluster on her actual pad on one front foot. It's only small but look exactly like the image in the Guinea Lynx picture.

I'm going to keep an eye on it.

The little monkey tricked you haha! :))

Awww Miss fluffybottom

2 of mine get small spurs occasionally but I just cut them off with a nail clipper. It might help if you use some piggy cream to soften it. I usually use Vetericyn.
