Hi All,

When putting Fudge back in his hutch I noticed very tiny scabs on his hind feet. They are not swollen or anything and he is his jolly self but I'm worried its the onset of bumblefoot.

I have soaked his feet in luke warm water and applied sudocreme, is there anything else I should be doing?

His hutch is largley lino, newspaper and shreaded paper as he has a dust allergy so have to avoid almost everything. I spot check every day and do a full clean once a week, he is given plenty of vit c veg, he doesn't seem overweight, has plenty of exercise so I don't know what I've done wrong.

I have vetbed I can use th help ease things but I don't like using this all the time as its a pain to wash and i worry about it damaging the machine.

Any advise please?

I don't think you've done anything wrong but personally I found shredded paper became soaked very quickly and although lino is great for cleaning and prevents the wood being urine soaked it possesses zero absorbency. If you don't want to go back to vetbed try using just whole sheets of newspaper laid thick with hay and change every other day.

I would say that vetbed would be the best along with plenty of hay. It could be the start of bumblefoot which is an infection in the foot pad. Take a photo of them and email Chrissie at Gorgeousguineas.com and she will advise you. She does have a cream for this type of problem. I would wash the sudocreme from the feet as the piggie can lick this and it could make your piggie poorly. Spray on savlon would be good as this coats the area with iodine to help protect it. I've also used a small amount of vaseline on the sore areas.

Thanks.

He is supervised after application and has shown no sign of licking it. I'd didn't think it would cause any harm as it is often recommended for buns with sore hocks and I have used it with no ill effects but spray savlon sounds much easier! and less messy!

I am pleased to say however that in just two days the scabs appear to of dissapeared and all that is left is a slight redness so a good improvement.

I have used sudocrem a few times on sore feet and it is brilliant. I have never seen a guinea try to lick it off either.

Thanks for letting my know about the sudocreme and I'm glad that the redness is starting to fade.
