Hi everyone I'm new to this site. I rehomed 2 guinea pigs called Bill & Bailey (hence the screen name). I was just playing with them and I noticed their feet look sore. What is the reason for this? Have I done something wrong? :...
What bedding do you use ?
Sometimes sawdust can be a bit to hard for little piggy feet and cause them to go red.
Are they blistered at all or just red ?
A little elaboration on how they look sore would help. Ie do they look dry and cracked, or just red, or blistery.
Things that commonly cause sore feet are
Using unsuitable beddings like cat litter,
A cage with a wire bottom or wire shelves or a run with a wire floor.
Sitting in/on urine (ie urine burns). This might mean the bedding is not absorbant enough for the piggies needs. OR that they are lazy and dont like to move from the spot they peed in.
I'm not suggesting you do any of those, but any of that may have happened at their previous home, or simply because wrong advice has been given out which is common. If its none of those, then perhaps others can suggest other reasons.
