Sore foot

Hi all,

I've had various problems with Bill's foot since we adopted him, and it seems to be getting worse at the moment.

He's always had 1 sore foot for some reason, and no amount of creams or cleaning can seem to make it better. Last time he was at the vet for something else she gave us some antibiotics to help clear it up, but unfortunately they haven't made any difference.

A few months on and it's scabbed over, and slightly swollen. Am going to head back to the vets this week, but just wondering if anyone has any experience in something similar?

As far as I can tell it doesn't cause him much discomfort - he's happy enough running around the floor, and only gets grumpy when I try and clean it etc.

Sorry yes, I wasn't very clear up above.

I've also been cleaning his foot with Savlon solution. A lot of online stuff says chlorhexidine soaks - is this similar? I can never work out the difference between all the creams and solutions.

It's just so frustrating as it's such a difficult thing to sort. As I've said, antibiotics didn't help, and they just make him poorly (when you can get them down him!).

In my Peter Gurney book he says that an effective treatment is the prescription drug Griseofulvin.

I dont know if this drug is still available?

Back 2 Nature small animal bedding. So reasonably soft... Will keep washing his foot a few times a day and head back to the vet. Arg!

Bumblefoot... I've had dealings with it, and it was far worse than the photo you've posted.. She had in it both her front feet and it spread under her belly, in all, she had 5 large abscesses.. We fought for 2-3 weeks, and I nearly had her put down twice.. she pulled through though
Looking at the piccie, your piggies in the early stages, you have the opportunity to knock this in the bud, keep it clean, wash the foot 3 times a day in salt water, reduce the bed, so you can clean him out daily, maybe put him on fleece? I'd suggest newspaper, but the ink might contaminate the sore further..
