Can anyone tell me why my two piggies have sore hocks? They are bedded on megazorb and soft fresh hay which is cleaned out everyday. I have been putting vaseline on their hock which seems to ease the redness, these are not open sores but I am puzzled as to the cause ?/

Welcome to the forum. :)

Red hocks can be, in most cases, very normal. Warm weather particularly can bring about more redness than usual in piggies ears and feet. Reduced activity can also contribute to the redness.
Particularly excessive (very bright and sore) redness can be caused by urine scald, which is unlikely with your piggies since they are bedded well.

www.gorgeousguineas.com sell a foot ointment called Perfect Paws, which clears up redness and soreness in feet and hocks very well - you would use this instead of Vaseline. Both Perfect Paws and Vaseline protect and soothe the feet, so it's up to you which you use. The Perfect Paws cleared up my two newest sows red hocks within a couple of weeks.

Hi you Sophie, the answer is yes. I am loving these to sweet boys, they use their nice big hutch as a race track at times and love their time being my lawnmowers and seem very happy. Thank you for letting me have them:)
