Hello
Diego is about 8 months old now, he lives with another male about the same age. He has scabs above his mouth which stay a day then go to leave the sore skin underneath, he now has scabs on either side of his mouth. He has had this about 3 weeks now.
I took him to the vets last monday and he said it was a virus similar to chicken pox called chillitis (not sure of spelling). He said there was no treatment, some said to pick the scabs off but there is no way I am doing that and he said it wasn't proven to help, as I say the scabs do come off then form again. It is very similar to a cold sore.
The vet said it can take months to clear and he will be ok as long as he eats, apparently it can stop them eating as it's sore.
Has anyone experienced this? any top tips? They live in an indoor cage on vet bed with newspaper underneath, timothy hay in a hay rack, food from pet shop and a variety of veg.
It doesn't appear to be bothering him, still eating and running around, popocorning around the living room as I type
I can't seem to get a photo on here, when the kids come home later maybe they can help me, above his mouth looks exactly like the photo's below on Henry.
Thank you
Caroline
