Hi everyone,

I noticed a crusty thing on Betty's back this morning and when I felt through her fur a small tuft came out immediately (was small only a 3mm patch). I've looked and there's a small sore area fairly small, less than 1cm round. I can see where there was some blood but it has scabbed over.

Betty seems fine, sat with us happy as usual this morning and was licking us merrily, she did squeak a couple of times when I was trying to take the photo, but doesn't seem in pain.

This is the link to the picture, can't see much though sorry! I can't attach the picutre into the thread for some reason. The picture really isn't great:

What do you think? Is there any sort of antiseptic I should rub on it?

Thanks, Merry Christmas
Sally

P.S thought I should say Betty lives with Bertha so it could maybe have been an accidental scratch from Bertha though I've never seen them do any sort of playfighting, there are occasional squeaks when they're in the hidey house though.

Please have your girl checked for mites or fungal (it can look very similar in the early stages) at a good vet's. Always treat all piggies in contact with an infective piggy. if it is mites, make sure that you use a good ivermectin product (shop products are often too low dosed to be really effective with an acute case of mites) and do the whole interval course. the sooner you treat the easier it is to get on top of it.

Thanks Wiebke, I'll ring the vets first thing tomorrow and get her in. She seems absolutely fine but researching has let me see some really horrific pictures of poorly pigs. How on earth people can let their pets get in such a state I don't know :)>>>
