my guinea pigs are 10 weeks old and I think one of them is a bit fat or maybe the pet store might of accidently let her mix with a male. I'm scared she is pregnant. Is pregnancy dangerous for guinea pigs at this age? Do u think pets at home might of made a mistake and let her mate? How much should they weigh at this age?

Hi and welcome!

Guinea pig birth weights can vary between ca. 40g and 120g - that is an enormous range. It doesn't get any smaller as piggies grow up. Piggies also don't grow evenly, they look really fat one week and slim and much longer the next week. I have adopted rescue born triplets at around the same age where the largest one weighed 100g more than the smallest - and they were all perfectly healthy in themselves! in fact, at 3 years old, they are still with me and going strong. Even though the largest sister is over 250g heavier than the smallest - but they are all within a healthy weight range.

Your girl is still a bit young to show any signs of an advanced pregnancy. They can get pregnant at the earliest between 4-6 weeks old and give birth at the earliest from 14-16 weeks of age. Normally you don't notice anything until the last 2-3 weeks before giving birth.

Please take the time to read these guides here. We have lots more guides at the top of our various Care sections. You are welcome to ask any questions you may have along the way in there.

But these here help you judge the individual weight/size ratio; help you to feed a good long term diet for optimal health and longevity and give you information about pregnancy. If you are worried about the latter, a good general diet is the best preparation that you can give your girl. The healthier and fit mum is, the healthier and fitter any babies.
You are welcome to open a support thread in our pregnancy section (which is only visible once you have joined) if your owrries continue or substantiate after reading the pregnancy guide, which has been specifically written for owners with no experience.
