Sorry to be so erm.....to the point on a not so pleasant subject matter. LOL!

How much should a guinea pig poo?
I know there is not going to be a standard answer but I'm asking as Guinness and Bailey poo loads! We gave them a thorough clean out yesterday- a real deep clean and decided to change there bedding to fleece following advice from here and today there is LOADS of poo on the fleece absolutely loads, in one day!

We were using woodshavings before as bedding on the advice of pets at home :red so didn't really notice just how much poo there was.

Is it normal for piggies to poo sooooooooo much?

Tracey x

Yep my piggie poops the very minute he gets into his clean cage.... I'm not joking x

Yep they poop loads and loads.

I tend to clean them out one day, sweep the poops up on the next day and clean the whole thing again the day after. I am always amazed that there are so many poops for one day. (I sweep with a little dustpan and brush I keep only for this job). I *think* it's on average 150 poops a day each. I have 6 in a huge cage so that's 900 poops a day (ish).

Amazing!

so glad someone else has bought the subject of piggy poo up lol

i too have changed from saw dust to fleece, only this morning, and i;ve got to say, i think i;m a bit sad, cause i;ve just been on poo patrol ;) cleared there poo out!, they haven't even been in there for 12 hours, but it looked just so horrid, but will be checking again later on :(|)

Thanks everyone.

I'm glad it's normal 150 poops a day looks about right from where I'm sitting, they're in the run now in the dining room and they've been in there about 40 minutes and theres poo in the corners already! I can't believe such small animals produce such a lot of waste!

I'm glad we swtiched to fleece though because at least we can see how much poo there is and make sure the hutch is kept clean. I swept them out and then took the fleece in the garden to shake all the hay off then put it back in again. Think I'll do this everyday and change the fleece/towel and paper when I think it's too dirty from wee's.

Thanks again.

They eat constantly...the remains from the previous meal has got to go somewhere! :))

HaHa, thats very true!

Another question linked to poo...do your quinea's poo and wee in one place? My boys don't seem to and there is poo and wet patches all over the cage. This isn't really a problem as such but it would be easier to do daily cleans if they did their business in one or two places rather than EVERYWHERE! Lol!

Just curious again really. xx

Only one of my piggies has a favoured corner of the cage where he poos the most. As piggies poo so much I think they just go whenever and wherever they are!

I know I am a bit sad! I have become totally obsessed and am reading everything i can and watching everything I can!

When I was studying social sciences I enjoyed it but found remembering dates, names and details REALLY hard but this guinea stuff is really sticking. I think I enjoy it TOO much :(|):(|):(|)
