Junior Guinea Pig
Hi,
I have 4 guinea pigs, 3 sows and a neutered boar. The "boss" of the herd has always been Honey, she is the biggest and bossiest! She never hurts the others but she is always the first to get to the food, first to come out at floor time etc. She can sometimes shove the others out of the way, but as i said before, never nips or hurts them.
Anyway, i have recently been on holiday and they all went to a rescue to be looked after for a week. I got back last Saturday, and since then, Coco (Honey's sister) has been chasing Honey quite frequently and mounting her back and nipping at her a bit (on her back). She has not actually drawn blood or made a mark, but Honey lets out a wheek and runs when Coco does this. She has not been doing it to the other two and some of the time Coco and Honey are sitting next to each other just fine.
Could this be a reaction to being away, or is it possible that Coco is now trying to become the "boss" of the herd? Should I be worried, or just wait for things to settle? Just to add, Coco only seems to be doing this indoors, and not out in the run (they have 16 sq ft of cage indoors).
