Hi,

I've noticed my 4 year old sow has some slight crust on her nipples and she has a scratch on her stomach. She doesn't allow any other pig into her hut so i think there was a slight scuffle but from what i've read there might be a hormonal issue as well. There's no hair loss and shes acting normally, i was wondering what your thoughts might be.

Sam the boar is ok :)

Hi love, i'd have her checked out, just in case it's anything else always best to be careful :)
Let us know how it all goes too please :)

Yeh i think i'll call the vet and get her looked at. Better safe than sorry.
She seems in perfect health otherwise but since I'm giving her a bath tomorrow ill check her over then. From what i've read it seems hormona,l i know how that feels!

Be very gentle when bathing, if the scabs come off you don't want any infection to set in.........that's why i think maybe a cream from the vets? Look i'm sure one of our lovely knowledgable people will be on when they all wake up and will advise you even better :)
Good luck tho xxxxxxxxxx

Two of mine had crusty nipples and it was thought to be fungal. They were soothed with Gorgeous Guineas cream and you can also use Bepanthen nappy rash cream safely. I believe it can be hormonal, but theirs cleared up with the cream

I have cream and special shampoo similar to G.G. I'll be very gentle, ive not handled her much and changed her bedding twice daily to help her heal. I'm swithering as to wether its hormal or fungal as she sits in the same spot all day and this happened after i tried a diffrent bedding. I'm back to the old stuff now. I'll check out the GG site again any way and see if there's anything. thanks all

Tthe cream and home made rub has done the trick, one side is totally clear and the other is nearly gone. panic over lol

"It was the super souffle cream I used, worked a treat"

I thought this forum was for pig ailments..........!

I was going to ask if you needed a second opinion but I decided not to!!!
