Sow with mucous from genitals

I would do as the poops are showing that she's not eating as much

Thankyou she did draw a little blood from nuggets nose, she's also had some weird mucous from her bits, could the constantly been in heat and aggressive for 6 weeks point to cysts?

Thanks she seems a little less mucousy this morning but I want it checking anyway as her bits are still swollen/open looking, she was teeth chattering at the other two through the bars of her cage, something is definitely annoying her, nugget on the other hand is the happiest I've seen her in weeks now she has a friend whos not fighting her or constantly harassing her so baby marshmallow has definitely helped, I just hope fluffy can be re bonded with them when she's all sorted out she used too be so quiet and sweet 💖
 
I'm going to step in with a syringe feed for fluffy as although she is eating, I don't think she's eating as much, only half a romaine lettuce leaf for breakfast and her poops are smaller than usual, there's no weight loss though 💖
 
If Fluffy’s behaviour has changed that much then there is definitely something going on. The teeth chattering could be a pain response. I agree that it could be cysts or a womb infection. 14 months is pretty young for cysts but it can still happen
 
Thankyou, yeah there's something bothering her, either somethings going on so she's a super stroppy teenager but I'm going to request an ultrasound to rule out cysts, it may be nothing and I know it might be pricey but i need to know what's going on, she stressed nugget out so much nugget appeared depressed and had diarrhea and they've always been together so 6 weeks of them sitting opposite ends of their enclosure and scrapping wheen in close proximity definitely is not right, neither is constant rumble strutting even when she's in there on her own 🤦‍♀️

My vet only charges around £40 for an ultrasound as it isn’t invasive and they should be able to do it conscious. An ultrasound will also show up a womb infection should she have one. Keep us updated

I have merged your threads as it is confusing to have 2 threads one about the same piggy with the same issues. I’ve moved the behaviour one into the health and illness one, as I think it is really a health issue rather than a pure behaviour issue.

Has your vet checked for an ovarian cyst? The ones that cause the aggressive/in constant heat behaviour are often the smaller ones that have just started growing and not the large fluid filled ones. Hormonal behaviour can seriously disrupt a bond and even cause a fall-out.

She has a vet appointment for 4pm to be checked, she has no physical symptoms but the aggression definitely fits, so much teeth. Chattering and lunging she's currently in quarentine in a cage within a cage as she drew blood from nuggets nose slightly 😢

Thankyou I will do, hope the vet doesn't think we are crazy, our cat passed away 2 weeks ago today (he had lymphoma) and it feels like we we constantly been there the past few months with either nuggets weird poop or onslow, and now fluffy 🤦‍♀️

Thankyou I just hope we aren't over reacting asking for an ultrasound to check for cysts but I would like to get to the bottom of this behaviour soon! Nugget is much happier bonded with marshmallow and isn't just sat at the opposite side of the room looking depressed, she's eating well, playing and snuggling baby marshmallow and her poop looks great for the first time in weeks, so I think stress was definitely her problem, now to just work out why after a year of been fine fluffy is suddenly so aggressive and rumbly/humpy 🤦‍♀️ xx

I wouldn’t worry about being there a lot right now. I went through a phase where I should have had my own parking space
 
Me too. I had a two or three months where all of the Receptionist at the Vets knew my voice on the phone and asked me which piggie was coming in to see them. It happens to us all. Even now when I turn up for an appointment I don't need to book in as they know me and they way "Oh yes hello Velvet's/Christian's/Meg's/Dennis's/Betsy's Mummy have a seat"!
 
Haha I feel a lot better now thankyou, just picking oldest up from school then straight to the vets with 3 kids in tow 🤦‍♀️

My vets receptionists also know me by the sound of my voice. Whenever I phone up they say ‘Oh yes, we’ll book you in with Lindsay’ who is my favourite vet 😂
 
They think they can feel some small cysts, they can do an x Ray or an ultrasound to confirm or we can watch and wait for now, we're going to try small supervised sessions in neutral territory for a couple of weeks and if that doesn't work try a neutered boar for her, if the cysts get bigger or start to bother her physically then spaying is an option but it comes with risks so we're trying to avoid it, though if they're likely to grow and cause problems then I suppose at 1 she has a better chance with the spay than at 5 or 6 🤔 xx
 
If cysts are an issue I would go for surgery while she’s young, as without treatment they aren’t going to get better. I’ve had 4 sows spayed and all sailed through the surgery. In the hands of an experienced Cavy savvy vet the procedure is safe. They can have just the ovaries removed (2 small incisions in the flanks) rather than a full spay unless there are uterine issues. I know it’s a worry, but once they have recovered from surgery you do get your old piggy back again.
 
Thankyou, because of the vulval discharge as well they do think cysts/hormonal, they said she could have a neutered boar who might sort her behaviour out and the cysts may never get any bigger or cause her any problems, I'm undecided at the minute, experienced cavy savy vet and cavy savy nurse yes but there are still some risks, if she can live a long happy life without surgery then I would prefer that obviously, I would like it if all my piggies could just live together happily though as well 💖

I’m a bit confused. Are they suggesting that she should be paired with a Neutered boar and that will sort out hormonal issues? If so, I’ve never heard of that.

Not that it will sort out hormonal issues, just that she may be able to live with one with the hormonal issues
 
I'll let the pros handle the tips from this and best of luck for Fluffy with whatever decision you make for her
