Sow with mucous from genitals

She is due too being aggressive to the others, I'm hoping to put the cage next door tomorrow, I have brought one of her friends down to speak through the bars and there were no teeth chattering so I'm hopeful they will rebond happily now the nasty hormones are gone! 😊 Xx

If you can, please keep her next to her companions or even with one of them as companionship can really boost recovery.

My silly scales broke but I know she'd lost weight at the vets, I'm syringing what she will take for now, she's back Monday so will be weighed again, and I'm going to try order some new scales too! 😊

I know, I'm just worried incase they stress her out too much overnight I will bring her cage up though and pop it next door to their room (they'll be able to see and hear each other but they won't be able to fight) 😊

Put her cage ideally next or very close to her companions cage. Guinea pigs have clear eyesight only up to a foot; any further distance they react to sudden movement.

The more you can keep an ill or recovering piggy in its familiar surroundings and to the normal daily routine, the better. It is a lot less stressful for them.

They have the run of a room (with thhe doorway caged off) shall I put her cage in their room? They can run all around it then

Shes just taken another 2ml feed 😍 and she ran around her cage (literally ran) everything crossed she keeps it up 🤞🤞🤞

Rebonding is not going well, and she's eating less ii think I'm going to have to take the. Cage back out, lots of teeth chattering 😩

All you can do is give it a try. It looks like she will be happier away from the group. There are always exceptions.
Hang on in there and keep on monitoring the weight (cheap supermarket kitchen scales are perfectly OK), keep her cool during any heatwave and supplement feed as needed.

She's now refusing syringe feeds, turning her head away and headbutting me, I'm trying but most of it is drooling out, she's taking a teeny bit, I'm just about to change her cage again so i can monitor poops really closely

I have seen her eat very small amounts by herself though so hopefully she's still getting something, I'm going too try just baby food after the cage clean so I can try get something in her at least

Keep persisting with feeding every two hours, whatever and how much goes in. You are no longer support/recovery feeding but crisis feeding around the clock. Be aware that the poo output lags 1-2 days behind the input, so it is not a safe measure to just the current food intake by!
Please follow the advice in this guide here: Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

See an out-of-hours vet for gut stimulants if you can.

I've been doing it every 2 hours round the clock anyway as she was never eating much by herself 😩 one very worried aand exhausted mum! (I also have 3very young children, I'm breastfeeding round the clock too (and dad works nights)! --I do not remember the last time I actually slept!) man i could use some good luck right now 😩 sadly our out of hours vets are not good (they wanted to put our cat to sleep before biopsy results were back because he had aspiration pneumonia following the biopsy and discharged us without antibiotics when we said no- he lived for almost 2months after this he passed 3 weeks ago tomorrow) and 40mins away I'm not sure a long bumpy car ride will help her pain but I'm attempting to syringe Pro c in water not that she's taking any of that either 😭

BIG HUGS

Unfortunately it really sounds serious. I am very sorry.

I'm possibly going to have to find another out of hours vet, she doesn't look good at all, other half will be home soon, I'm going to get him to try, if he cant get anything in her I'm going to start making phone calls 😭

Fingers very firmly crossed!

Shes taken a couple of mls! OK trying to tempt her with fresh grass as she just wheeked when we opened the door! That girl knows how to scare us!

Hang on in there! Try the rhythm of syringe feeding a little, offering some fresh food and then following up with a bit more syringe feed. The feed can help stimulate the appetite a bit. the closer to 5 ml or the equivalent of you come with each session the better to get her through the crisis.

I know myself from far too many life and death battles just how draining it is when you have to fight for every ml of feed.

Thankyou we are trying everything, she ate some grass, no interest in hay or pellets but better than nothing, if we include the baby food she had around 2.5mls, hang in there little one 💖 sshe was doing so well yesterday too, I think the teeth chattering was just so was too unwell to fix a broken bond and it just stressed her out, we will keep her alone with plenty of human interaction until she's eating properly and then if that bond can't be salvaged we can try dating with a boar 😊 we will sort her out one way or another we just need her eating again as a priority 😊

All the best!

I hope so! She's still refusing the syringe but maybe thats because she's finally eating herself! I've now seen her munch hay and a couple of pellets and drink from the water bottle! Sure she just likes to scare us! I definitely think she's happier away from the others unfortunately though 😩 but we can deal with that as long as she stays healthy 🤞💖

Please keep a close eye on her. Can you get hold of kitchen scales from the supermarket to keep a daily eye on her weight?

Weight monitoring is crucial in situations like these because the scales don't lie and you can see whether your piggy is eating enough or not straight away. Nibbling on stuff can be just so deceptive - it can be enough but equally, it can mask your piggy not eating properly. And it can make the difference between life and death.

I have some kitchen scales they just aren't accurate, they normally say they are 100g above what the vet scales say and when nugget had the runs they said she'd lost 75g in 24hours when really she'd only lost 20g 🤦‍♀️ currently out scales are saying she's about 90g under what they said before surgery but in reality that could only be about 40g, its hard to judge when they are inconsistent anyway, I'm keeping up the 2 hourly feeds with whatever she wwilll take, she has a post op check at 9:30am tomorrow,, I know she'd lost weight at the vets yesterday but they didn't say how much, her appetite is definitely improving though touch wood! 💖

You're doing a great job, :tu:
Its quite a major operation to be spayed, recovery may take a while. Keep feeding her regularly as you are, I'd be tempted to try handfuls of grass, her favourite veg, also carrots & sweetcorn short term to help get some weight back, until she's eating a proper balanced diet by herself again. (long term- carrots are high in sugar /sweetcorn high in calories so only feed as treats when she's back to normal)

Does she like many herbs? Try sprinkling them in her hay to get her interested & foraging if she does.

Good luck at the vets tomorrow
Fingers crossed for a full & speedy recovery

... & a hug for you - you must be exhausted :(
Xx

Edit... Try writing down your own scales weights daily at the same part of her day (eg before supper) & see if they are always reading at a certain weights difference regularly (eg always 20g lighter).
But always go with the same set of scales reading, it will be more accurate. Always use the scales on a firm, hard, flat surface for improved accuracy too. Xx

You are doing a fab job. Keep it up. Have you tried oats with grated apple and grated sweet potato? It's good for putting weight back on and encourages eating cos it is yummy if you are a guinea pig.
