We have had our girls Ruby and Nixon about 7 weeks, and they are around 5 and a half months old.

Tonight for the first time that I have witnessed, they have squared up to each other, making a horrendous noise and lunges at each other a few times.

I can’t find a definitive answer on if this is normal or not?

I haven’t particularly witnessed one being more dominant than the other, one is braver, but they usually live in perfect harmony and zoom and popcorn together.

Just wanted to check and see if this is possibly normal behaviour, and has something to do with them having a season, or maybe not having enough space (we are getting them a bigger cage in the coming weeks)

Thanks in advance!

(Some pics of them when they are being angels and not worrying me!)

How big is there cage please? Do they have two of everything? A separate hides to go to to be away from each other if needed? How are they acting now?

The cage is 60x120, there are 2 hideys but one of them is quite big and takes up some floor space which is why I want to get them a bigger cage as they are growing.

They only have one water bottle/bowl/hay rack as so far there have been no issues, they both eat from the bowl and hay rack at the same time in harmony.

It happened once again after that, but since I have checked up on them every so often and they have been getting on fine, no issues.

Sows can need their own space, just like boars do. A bigger space is good and individual hidies, ideally with 2 exits so no one gets cornered, scatter fresh food and have 2 small bowls for pellets. I always have 2 water bottles in any case in case one gets blocked or runs out.
They should settle as they get older, but may flare up if one or other has a strong season

thank you for the advice, I have been thinking of getting them a bigger cage anyway, I will get another water bottle and bowl for them just to make things easier for them.
They do have individual hidies with two exits.
