Over the last week or so i have suspected that Pandora may have Ovarian Cysts after noticing her "pear shape" appearance and her overly dominant personality....resulting in me having to separate her from Sweep after she went for him last week.
Today she went to the vet , and the vet agrees that she thinks its ovarian cysts on examination.
On Monday ,Pandora will have an ultrasound and if it is indeed Ovarian Cysts as we suspect, she will be spay there and then. I also noticed a bit of hair missing on her shoulder.... My poor girl.
Pandora on Metacam for pain and eating well and keeping a good weight at the moment...so thats all i can hope for.

Has anyone got an after care spay experience they are willing to share? I have never had a piggie spay before but had rabbits spay.
Thank you in advance

Beans was spayed about 2 months ago due to cysts. She's around 5 so a bit on the older side but she absolutely sailed through it.

Within hours of coming round from the anesthetic she was walking about and eating as if nothing had happened.

For the first few days I separated her from Toast so that A) I could monitor how much she was eating and pooing etc, and B) she wasn't able to have any hay as bedding as it would irritate the wound so I had her on white towels fleece so I could notice any bleeding.

After 5 days I noticed that Beans had pulled out her stitches! I was terrified and rushed her to the vets, they put a staple in to hold the skin together, that night she even pulled the staple out! She was completely fine though, didn't even seem to bother her

Make sure if you haven't already, that your vet is very experienced and confident with this procedure. Some vets put them on a precautionary course of antibiotics after the surgery incase they get an infection. My vet didn't, and isn't convinced that this is needed and Beans didn't get an infection despite pulling out her stitches.

If you have any ramps in your cage take them out until she's all healed up and I'd use some white or light colours fleece to so you can see if there's any pus or bleeding :)

It depends on how they do it. When my Bumble was spayed they when in through the sides and stapled them closed again like they would for a cat. It looked horrendous but meant it was really easy to keep clean, dry and keep an eye on.

Hope it all goes well and best of luck to Pandora for a speedy recovery

I've never had to provided aftercare following a spay, but i'm sending lots of warm wishes and a big hug hoping that all goes well on Monday. Good luck Pandora

I heard you had to separate. Sounds strange but at least with it being cysts you may be able to rebond at some point. After Fuzzy's spay we kept her on vetbed and just made sure she didn't sit in her hay. We were lucky as within about 12 hours she was eating for herself and after 48 hours she had rejoined her friends.

Pandora was ultra sounded and then spay yesterday.
Her ovaries were huge and covered in cysts, so took a little longer than expected, but it went well. Took her a little while to come around, but shes been home over 24 hours now and doing well so am relieved.

thanks for the advice everyone, just wanted ti update in case anyone wondered what happened with Pandora or anyone else going through this :)

post op check Thursday :)
