Hi :)
So I have Hriusha, an unneutered male who is 3 1/2... and I am interested in getting him a friend soon.

Is a spayed female a good match? If I find one, I will bring Hriusha so they can meet.

Thanks :)

Hiya,

Sprayed females are few and far between and if you do find one I would imagine the boy would have to be neutered to stop him being a sex pest...lol

Although not sure about that just thinking along the rabbit lines. Why not a baby boar, he could pick his own at rescue?

Hope you get something sorted. :)

Hey,
I actually found a rescue which is south from me that has many spayed females and neutered males. I found a baby male I am possibly interestd in as well, if he gets along with mine. I am nervous if the baby grows up then the two boars will start fighting, is it easier to bond a female and a male? Most of these spayed females on the site can go home with unneutered males or other cagemates... I wonder.

I'm still confused on how to go about going through the introduction. Can you list them in steps? Sorry I want to make sure I understand as clearly as possibly.

If you can get a spayed female then go for it. it may still turn in to a fight as i have witnessed a boar and sow fighting!
and if they don't get on they won't!
But good luck and welcome to the forum

I have a spayed female and unneutered boar together.

Holly was spayed about 3 years ago as she had tumours on her womb and ovaries. I was warned not to expect her to survive the operation but she did really well.

Tommy is our oldest boar and has fathered 4 litters ( I kept all the babies) and as they were both getting old I decided to bring them both inside for last winter. Holly had previously lived with all the other girls outside in a shed and Tommy had been on his own but in sight of other GPs so able to see, hear and smell them. He didn't get on with any of his sons.

They are 5 years old and get on really well. Tommy did try to mount her for the first couple of days but since then he's left her alone. They snuggle up at night - nose to bum - and if Tommy has a bit of cucumber, or whatever, if Holly wants it he lets her have it. They are like Darby and Joan. :smitten:

Aww :smitten: :smitten: I really wish Hriusha could have that companionship... most of these spayed females are less than a year.

How did you put them in the same cage? hriusha has his big cage, but I wouldn't know how to make him allow a female in. I know I can't put her in right away... how would I go about doing that?

They've known each other all their lives and have had contact (sight, smell, noise) through being in their runs. I was able to put them together with no fuss at all, but having said that they are both very docile pigs. ::)
