Looks like off to the vet in the morning to check Bea out (she only went in last week for her annual M.O.T) - she is eating and drinking fine ,but is a bit wet underneath, she has weed on me and on my top and it smells of acitone / TCP - Guinealynx mentions something of this in sows but says that they can smell of this 2 weeks before and Two weeks after they have given birth (but she is spayed ) so no mini pigs - no blood in urine,no squeeking when she peed on me and is moving around cage o.k - did see a few rapid short breaths tho - and then everything as normal - have just given her a bum washand she is cuddled up on daughters lap - any thoughts?

This may be completely the wrong direction, but I know in people who have diabetes can have urine that smell acetone-y. I don't know whether this would be similar in guinea pigs. It may well be an infection, with you saying she is damp underneath. Hopefully someone with a little more experience may know.
Best to get her checked out at the vets to be on the safe side. x

Thanks Klee
The only two I trust with the wiggies are not on tonight - but I will be able to get one of them at one of thier practices first thing tomorrow. - just wondered if anyone else had come accross this.

The only time I have noticed unusual smelling urine with my pigs (all males) is when they have had a urine infection / kidney problem. They can sometimes be wet underneath from this type of problem. Can you take a urine sample to the vets with you in the morning? They would be able to dip test it straight away then & it would show any indicators of protein or glucose in the urine.

Hope Bea will be better soon :)
