Hi everyone,

As you may or may not know, one of our girls has an ovarian cyst and her sister is also having an issue with her uterus being clearly visable on an xray - our vet is against spaying guinea pigs which is understandable - but if it comes down to it, around how much would it cost each?

Porche is also having bladder issues so it's all going on here!

It very much depends on the vets; you have to ask them - they should give you an estimate.

There are now other treatments available for ovarian cysts than an operation (hormones), but if the uterus is going wrong, a spay may be necessary if it can't be treated medically.

My five year old Cariad needed an emergency spay last year when her uterus was grossly enlarged, fluid-filled, borderline pyometric and also contained a lump; she was also found to have a couple of rather nasty looking ovarian cysts. I can't exactly remember what the cost was as I also had a couple of other piggies seen and treated for other issues, so I paid it all in one big lump.

Where I work I'm sure its about 80/90. I'll fond out for definate tomorrow so you can get a ball park figure, but there will be more expensive places around and also cheaper places. Just beat in mind very cheap doesn't always mean the best xx

Hi

I have just had my little girl spayed. She had a couple of huge ovarian cysts which did not respond to any treatment (chorulon). It cost me just under £100.

The vet showed me a photo of the ovaries and uterus once removed. The cysts were enormous, one was just over 3cm in diameter. No wonder she was so unwell poor girl. Certainly worth getting her spayed.

Thank you all - of course we are going to try hormone treatments first but to be honest, although the vet confirmed one cystic ovary sbe didn't seem concerned, nor did she tell us what would be done about it.!
