Hi, I can't remember if I've made a post like this in the past, but I'm unable to locate it so I've had to create another thread!

Please could I have some general quotes on the price of a spay (for a female guinea pig).. Including all pain relief etc. I am suspecting one of my girls will need a spay in the next week or 2 due to possible pyometra, we are booking her into the vet but would like to know what prices to expect!

Thank you

Oh thank you, £150 is very steep! But I guess mine aren't needing an ultrasound so would maybe be £50ish pounds cheaper? Will phone up tomorrow anyway!

To be fair, the ultrasound alone cost £35 - £40 and like I have said in a previous thread, the price includes any post op care.

Eliza (r.i.p) had an eye removed last September which cost £100. Unfortunately she caught an infection within the socket and between September and a few weeks ago, she was backwards and forwards to the vets. Apart from any medication that I was prescribed, I didn't pay a penny towards her care.

I have seen first hand surgery carried out on guinea pigs and smaller animals and you would be surprised between the difference on operating on a cat or dog and a guinea pig or rabbit.

All the best for your piggies x

I was charged for every consultation and meds for Guiness (RIP) and was quoted £100 for ultrasound and a fee of £110 as out of hours (Sunday), they alsowanted to charge me for sending the lump away for histology- I said no as if it was cancerous they would be no treatment

To be honest one of my piggie had a lump removal a few weeks back, and the lump sent away for analysis. The cost of everything was over 300 pounds. So I would say 150 Is very reasonable for an invasive op like a spay.

Either way all the best for your piggie :D

Thank you all.. I am so worried/nervous about her potentially being spayed :( Although I know he will be in good hands with a specialist exotic vet. I'm hoping the op will cost less than £100!

Both my girls were spayed last year - op ,all meds and pain relief and gut stimulants and metacam for 5 days after cost £90 - the more experienced the vet at spaying guinea pigs the shorter the operation time and lower the cost (ususally) i have a boar who had a very complicated lump removal and skin like a rhino - vet broke 3 needles stitching him up - it was costed out at 3 x 20 mins of surgery so was a hefty bill - my other vet (the specialist )has literally carried out i would say in excess of 40 odd spays - both my girlies were done in about 15 mins - both also had other tumours removed from their wombs at the same time. The vet practice manager or vet should be able to give you a quote.

Oh really?! That's reassuring as this is an experienced exotic vet so hopefully it will be cheaper than a usual one. Saying that though, xrays were £90 - or are xrays more expensive than a spay anyway? Hmmm. If she does end up needing one I am praying for no complications!

It was a rabbit here but my vet usually charges the same for both species, its £96 excluding pain meds for a spay any aftercare needed (such as replacement stitches is extra)

Well my vet charged £90 for the xray AND ultrasound and that was for 3 piggies so I'm guessing that's a good price?!

Thank you, Bekki :)
