Spaying Tallulah

It's such a relief when they take their first bit of food after an op. Hoping she makes a full recovery very quickly and can get back to her friends. x

She has only done two poops, is that okay? I fed her one because it looked like a cecal (sp) one and thought it couldnt do any harm she could probably do with it. The other is normal. Just confused as to why she is eating but not much poop yet...

That's brilliant news.

I could do with one of those warmers for when one of mine is unwell (like now).

You got yours from the vet?

No I got it from Pets at Home, they are £19.99 and at first I thought it was going to be a slight rip off but its worth every penny. Tallulah keeps lounging on it, then coming out for abit because I think she gets abit too warm, then goes back on it.

Is it the Snugglesafe you got Char? I've not had to use mine yet but from all accounts they are worthwhile.

How is Tallulah this morning? Any more poops? It may take a while for her poops to get back to normal in the hours following the surgery; her eating pattern was disrupted which will affect the output. She should get back on track today though, provided she is eating adequate amounts. :)

I would spay my girls if I could. The only vet that has a sucess rate I feel comfortable with is in Stockholm and I wouldn't want to travel with newly operaded piggies and I don't have anyone to stay with that could also house three (because I'd have to take Bo as well) piggies.

Yeah it is, it is so worth the money. I have just gone to reheat it and it was still slightly warm. I put it under the vetbed though because dont think she would sit on it otherwise as its abit hard.

She has pooped some more which I'm relieved at, they arent the best shape but they arent anything to worry about. I went down to get her more veg and now she is out munching away. I checked the stitches and they are really nice and clean.

Gypseys spay went really well but right now I am happier with Tallulahs at this point *touch wood* it stays that way, as Gypsey wound did bleed slightly.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes :))

Really good to hear that Talullah is doing well. :) I have a snugglesafe too - I tend to tuck it behind the hidey house of a sick pig or bunny (wrapped up in a tea towel).

I'm especially interested to hear about her, as Holly as spayed by the same vet. :) The operation was fine etc, but I was very unhappy about not being given pain relief, despite asking for it. Luckily I had some myself at home, although it was a little older than I really wanted to use.

Be warned that the spay wound might start to look a bit odd/scary. I wish I'd taken photos of Holly's so I could show you, but I ended up taking her back to have a look, in case it was getting infected, but was told it was healing normally.

AAAARGH no edit! I so wish we could edit posts as often as we liked on here - I always want to edit mine!

Just thought to add, when I say it was the same vet, I'm assuming it was your usual vet you used! :))

With the wound going funny, I've remember it was a day before my wound check appointment, so I went a day early. So it must have been about day 6, if that's any help.

Was it Marcus who done the operation? And did you see him afterwards? I was suppose to see someone else after the operation before taking her home but I refused and said I would only see Marcus, they are all good vets there but I just like to stick to him for the pigs.

I'm confused as to why he wouldnt give you any pain relief though, he gave Tallulah an injection of Rimadyl (sp) and then I got Metacam for at home, which she is to start later today. I did have to ask for it, but with Gypsey I didnt, he beat me to it. I know they dont have Rimadyl there to give out for home use but he always has Metacam there.

I wont panic or anything if it weeps or bleeds slightly, since Gypseys did start bleeding slightly 24 hours after and we went to the emergency vet, £100 later and we found out it was normal and fine etc.

Cross post! :)) Yes, it was Marcus, but she was released to me by someone else (I don't know who - a woman). I asked for pain relief and she said it wasn't necessary, and I could bring her back if she was in pain!

In many ways I wasn't surprised, as I had the same issues (at another vets) when I had the bunnies spayed. I'm sure if I had a hysterectomy I'd want pain relief! :{

Ah yeah thats probably why then. Was she a large woman by any chance - a nurse? Or a small blonde woman? Shes the vet my mum likes with the dogs, but I cant say she seems great about pigs.

The other vets are very good in dogs and cats etc, but Marcus is the only cavy-savy (and rabbit) one there really, which is why I refused to see anyone but him. I think the receptionist was abit put out, but Marcus didnt mind, but the way I see it I'm paying enough for it so I'm entitled to see the best person for my piggies - afterall it is a business they are running :))

If you ever have a spay/operation done again, just say you want to see him afterwards and I'm sure he will happily see you.

Thanks - yes, to be honest, I didn't really know what to expect, or who I was seeing. I think she was a small blonde woman, from memory. I personally think they should be prescribed by the vet that's done the operation, as I had to pay my bill as I arrived, before I had even seen Holly and the other vet.

I'll be better prepared next time! :))

Oh I refused to do this too :red. I told them there wasnt any point in me paying for it because I still needed to get pain meds and critical care from Marcus. They seemed pretty taking aback and confused, and still handed me the bill to look over, even though I knew it wouldnt be anything like that rolleyes.

I think you must have seen Kate, shes amazing with dogs and cats, but yeah wouldnt really want to see her about smaller animals.

I just hope Marcus never retires :))

Ah I'll definitely be ready for it next time now!

It's awful when a trusted vet goes - my last vet (Wickford) bloomin' emigrated! :(

She is doing really well and has been eating like normal. Stitches still look really clean and good and been no leakage or anything. She is going to the loo as normal too. So all in all I think she is definitely going to come through it with flying colours, and shockingly more so than Gypsey!

What a big relief! You can never know how they come through an op.
