Hi, I'm in Bedfordshire and I need a specialist piggy vet. My local emergency vets are doing a good job with my non eating pig, (8 hours of not eating or drinking so far) But he has suggested that I find a specialist vet to perhaps sort out whatever problem my piggy has better than the vets he is in at the moment.

Thisl surgery has 'vets now' over night, and normal vets during the day, 2 of which have had further training in small animal care, and seem to be quite up on piggy knowledge. I just don't know what to do for the best. Graham is in there at the moment and the vet has given him a fluid injection. My pigs are not insured, as we can afford the vets bills, however they are totalling nearly £600 in the last 3 weeks for overnight care, of one piggy which we sadly lost.

Can anyone help?

Although not open until tomorrow, and not completely local to you, one of the best guinea pig vets in the country is Simon Maddock in Northampton. Depending where you are in Bedfordshire I don't think it would be too far to travel to.

How's your piggie this morning?

Thank you for the advice. The vet has said that he is taking the syringed food, however he is not eating on his own, but is looking a lot brighter, bolting round the cage when they try to pick him up. They are very busy today and there are dogs being bought in, I hope the stress of that is not what is causing him not to eat on his own - otherwise he may be in there for longer than needed.

On the other hand, I am worried that he is not eating on his own.

No doggies at Simon's that is what I like. My cats and my guineas don't have that stress.

Hope your little piggy is improving.
