hi

I have a piggy with suspected bladder stones. does anybody know of a specialist vet in the worcester or hereford area?

also has anybody experienced successful bladder stone surgery as our vet seems dubious. I know surgery is a huge risk for piggies but obviously I don't want to just give up on him either

any help gratefully appreciated

Have you had a look on our vet locator? Welcome to the forum.

I have been doing a 60 mile round trip to see Rachael Mowbray at vale vets in Dursley - 100 mile round trip the other week when there were lots of road works at my end - she has recently performed complicated bladder stone surgery on Bumble - as he had emergency surgery for bladder stones at my local vets when Rachael was away on holiday - then needed complicated surgery for a tiny bladder stone on the tip of his penis bone - the stone did not show up on x-ray only on a CT scan - but we knew something wasn't right - she is a piggy specialist - has many pigs of her own - spays all her sows - is the official head vet for the Kennel clubs dog agility team - and won a bronze medal in Helsinki for great britain with her own agility dog - she does most of the exotic surgeries - and has spayed two of my sows - she is also doing another postgraduate qualification in soft tissue orthopaedic surgery - Dursley is just off the M5 - the vets is also a referrals practice - when other vets can't find out what the problem is - (bumble was referred there 2 years ago -) and Rachael discovered a kidney stone that she told me to syringe feed him a few mls of sparkling water daily as the gas might push the stone out - it worked as he was fine for 2 years.

hope your piggy gets sorted.

I can't recommend a vet but I have had a piggy have successful stone surgery. He had other complications though as he also had two mammary tumours removed at the same time. He did well with a lot of post op care by me and the vets. He died about 6 months later but that was more than likely related to the tumours and not the bladder stone.

I know there are others on here who have had successful bladder stone ops so it is an option if you have a vet who is willing and experienced enough to do it.... I would only go for this if you have a good vet though. Sounds like your current one is not sure about it all and I am not sure I'd go for an op with them....

Good luck!
