Hello,

Does anybody have a cunning way of getting guineas in from their run?! I've only had them for 2 days so I'm sure it will get easier, but I'm just terrified of one of them whizzing past me and escaping! I have a triangular prism shaped run, it has one door but of course they don't sit there waiting behind it!

Oh nina the joys of these little piggies ey !
I had the same problem and i think i have now just got the answer for my two any way.
Mine had a door atthe end so ive made a tunnel which leads into a box and when they have run through i slide the door down behind them.
my catching time has reduced from 2 hours to about 1/2 hour.
I'm sure others will be here with some other ideas soon

I usually use a towel And block off the far corners with it. My boys seem to love hiding there when it's time to come in as I can't reach them at all! :))

After that it's just a case of trying to catch them as they run past.

Thankfully neither has tried to run out of the run. In fact, they've only run back in

Thank you both! Sure it will be trial and error... Gus is not too bad but Paddy is only 7 weeks and very speedy, hopefully he'll get easier to catch as he gets bigger!

I use a pigloo that's turned upside down with a nice treat in it (for example a fresh handful of hay or a bit of cucumber) and have trained them to come into that. You still need to corner them a bit, but you can use your two hand to block off escape routes on both sides. Fun and games with new piggies.

Make sure you give them LOTS of praise when they do something right!

Transfer time 10 mins for 4 guinea pigs, once they've caught on.

Hello,

How cute does that little piggy look! Thank you will give it a go!

Transfer time for 54 piggies is about 4 minutes just rustle the bag of food and they all follow each other up the ramps and into the sheds like a herd of sheep-I feel like Noah loading the Ark! However there is always one straggler who has to be chased round though they usually go up the ramp when they realise that it is bedtime -what fun we have.

It will take a few weeks to get them fully trained, but usually they catch on quite quickly that this is a pretty stressfree way that requires no handling and picking up.

Just start by putting it into their run, with a treat insde, so they can get familiar with it. Mine like to have naps in it and use it as toilet...

I love this picture - what a sweet, smiley face.

i was hopeless at catching my boys at the start but now its just one swift pickup and rarely do i have any trouble now,in time you will speed up your movemements and learn which corners they will try and retreat to it just takes time x
